Good evening all,
Just a few words about myself to say hello.
I've been involved in various shooting disciplines on and off for most of my life but unfortunately nothing regular, not for lack of trying. I started on air rifles as many do and shot in a league in the Midlands for a few years, performing somewhat respectably at bell target. Some years later I got my SGC and took up clay shooting, which I still participate in semi regularly. I had a spell in 100yd CF rifle shooting at the local range, but I can't say it particularly captured my interest and I didnt pursue it for long.
Thanks to the genorosity of others, I've had the opportunity to go decoying for pigeons and also have a go at rabbit control. Sadly, the two lovely older people who gave me permission to shoot over their land for rabbits died a year or so back, so my pest control "career" came to an abrupt halt as I wasn't able to find other suitable permissions locally. I did a paid stalk a year or so back with an excellent guide, but it's not really something I can afford to do a few times a month, which is how often I'd like to get out and about, although I am looking to book another soon, as I enjoyed it so much.
Calibre wise, I have shot quite a large selection of both pistols and rifles over the years, but with rifles, if I ever get the opportunity to shoot regularly for live game, I'd want to start again from the ground up. I feel like I have too many gaps in my knowledge. I don't really know any hunters, so finding someone willing to mentor or teach has been difficult and I'm not sure paid stalking bridges that gap sufficiently.
Work wise, like many these days, I push buttons on a computer in the vain hope that something useful comes out of it. Ironically, my job puts me in contact with land owners on a regular basis, but I sort of feel its unprofessional to start asking for permissions and so on, so I haven't.
Anyway its great to be here and I hope to learn a lot. Thanks for taking the time to read my intro.
