Hi guys,
I live in the hills near Aberfeldy in Perthshire. I focus mainly on red, roe and occasionally fallow deer. I stalk around my home up here in the hills and on estates in the wider area. I got my DSC2 last winter so I will probably look for stalking ground more formally now, possibly with Forestry and Land Scotland.
As of last week I use a 6.5 Creedmoor for the stalking. Prior to that, I used 6.5 x 55 Swedish but it was was recalled a few months ago and I decided to swap to Creedmoor because replacement rifles were more available, and there seem to be a lot more non toxic options with Creedmoor ammunition.
I've been non-toxic for over four years now on all my ammunition for all prey and I've never looked back.
I started hunting as a teenager in South Africa helping with the cull on a school friend's game farm. Even though I moved to the UK 15 years ago I still sometimes giggle at the term stalking! It will be no surprise that a lot of the deer that I keep for myself gets turned into biltong!
I'm becoming more actively involved in the deer management group for the lands around my house. It's great to collaborate with others to over see and manage a sustainable deer population.
I'm not much of a collaborator on directories, but I'll make an effort and look forward to learning lots and helping where I can.
Keith
