Help A-ATEC thread loctite drama

Try freezing it, a lot of glues and epoxies lose their adhesion at low temps.
If it doesn’t work freeze it again and then use a plumbers torch to heat just the adapter and give it a twist, the tread lock should crack off fairly handy.

A word of warning and a confession of stupidity on my part.
I recently acquired a new mod that was subsequently cerakoted and when I screwed the mod on it was, how shall I say it “ a bit tight”! Great thought I, no problems with this mod working loose and I anticipated that the thread would wear in to an easier fit. So I tightened it up nice and tight and ended up getting it stuck! Fortunately the mod had a hex attachment so I diligently applied the largest of my adjustable spanner’s and managed to successfully unscrew the barrel from the action!!
Fortunately Ronin was available to help out his ham fisted amigo so all ended well!! Moral of the story... take it to a gunsmith!!

Handy having such a fine smith close by!:thumb:

Lads, I’m in a pickle.

I’ve used medium strength loctite to glue a thread attachment to my .223. This is for the H2 ATEC quick change moderator.

I now need to remove the thread attachment as I need to have the barrel crown reduced by 1mm as the factory rifle thread is 16mm and to accept the H2 mod it needs to be a minimum of 15mm.

I’ve tried warming the thread with hair dryer (twice), and using molegrips to detach the thread and this has not worked. Then gently heated on the gas hob, and this didn’t work.

Before I embarrassingly take the barrel to a gunsmith, any other suggestions?

So...

...did you get it off yet?

Everyone thanks for helpful comments. Here’s an update to bore you on lockdown day 10!!!

I tried heating again and couldn’t get it off, and the adaptor was getting damaged by the mole grips.

I then called the Mod Manufacturers ATEC and UK distributer to plead with them to alter their fitting instructions so plonkers like me don’t do it again. The distributer agreed with me the instructions needed altering, and were very helpful. The manufacturer wasn’t that bothered to be honest.

In recognition of the confused fitting instructions they sent a new 1/2inch adaptor to my RFD, and the special tool that should accompany each MOD (he did not send this out as he assumes all MODs are fitted by a gunsmith and these usually have one of these tools).

I have taken the whole barrel and glued on thread to my RFD to sort out with a gunsmith. (Shop is 5 mins away and sells venison so that’s an ok lockdown journey as I’m getting food!!!!)

All in all, this has been one of those ‘learning experiences’ with a new bit of kit. When it’s all over though it will be worth it. The engineering of the MOD is superb.

Thanks for everyone’s time to comment and help out.

Im having a similar problem with getting the mag tube off my mossy , tried soaking with wd and then the hair dryer to no avail , going to try brake cleaner which im told doesnt harm the bluing , if thats no good may try a heat gun but the melting point for red loctite apparently is 400 so not to sure if heating it up that much would damage the bluing

I think a hair dryer or hot air gun is a waste of time. Bit like tossing cotton wool at it. Even a small ish gas blow torch with concentrated flame on the steel part is the way to go. Heat until smoke comes from the Loctite threads. Then open. Recently changed the threaded bit on a JD224 mod from m14 to 1/2"x20 it was very easy. That was fitted with permanent Loctite.
