Hi all, I am about to start working up a load with 150grain SST and Vhit N140. My rifle has shown a liking for this projectile in factory ammo

Still relatively inexperienced with reloading but I have successfully developed 243 loads before

I plan to start below max and work up but here’s the thing?…

Vhit max charge is 44.1…..however….Hornady max is 45.8

Funnily enough for the 75gn VMAX I used in the 243 the higer max charges were in the opposite camps

That’s quite a difference and I’d like to get to a decent load in a sensible number of rounds..where should I start folks?…

I am thinking of 43.5 and then .2 upto 45.3 giving me 10charge weights… keeping below the higher of the two max charges does his sound sensible ?

Appreciate anyone sharing their thoughts experience of this powder/bullet combo

Better to use manufacturer data instead of asking randoms for their opinion. There could (will, this is SD... ) be people who have never even fired, let alone loaded for a 308 telling you what to do!

Here you go , you've answered your own question. VV data is often quoted as being on the anaemic side . Never take that for granted always work up slowly and keep an eye out for pressure signs . Regardless of cartridge the principles remain the same .

I used the hornady data and worked up a load and settled on 45.5 which is just under max .
Velocity is 2730 fps from a 20 inch barrel.
