Help with a roe sack...

I've been very fortunate to have been given a roe sack by a friend. It's made of nubuck leather and he tells me it originates from Germany. The thing that's bothering me is why it has a vertical slit in the section that fits against my back. This can clearly be seen on the left of the second picture. Clearly the liner will keep the deer in, but what happens if you want to fold up the liner and use the sack to carry bits of kit - obviously it will fall out!

Has anyone seen anything like this before or can offer an explanation for the design please? Thanks in advance...

you're a very lucky friend , i wouldnt worry about the rear pocket , if your worried about loosing stuff out of it , dont put anything it it !

plenty of pockets around the front !

Thanks Chris, sadly the slit is just that - a slit - no pocket I'm afraid. I'm considering getting a strip of leather sewn over it to make the main body of the sack secure.

Chris, are you sure, have you shoved your hand right in? Mine was very tight until I explored vigorously & found it stretched across the back of the sack & hey presto there was this little mat hiding within.

Dare I suggest that I have one similer and have seen pictures of the rifle being slotted through in the alps when you need both hands for climbing.dont know if I would do that with modern rifle with scope on but open sights were not a problem, maybe if I had swing off mounts
Just had another look at pic only one slot blown that out of the water. mine has a slot at each side.
