Hi from Northumberland

I introduced myself a good while ago but got told off because I said what I did for a living and it was deemed to be advertising. I didn't know about the Trade Membership but I'm now fully paid up.
I'm a knifemaker of over 40 years and live in S.W. Northumberland. Basically where the Pennine Way crosses Hadrian's Wall.
I've gathered all species of deer in the UK except a CWD and have even shot fallow and sika in Ireland. I had to buy a .270 for that back then. I use a 7-08 mostly but shot my largest red with my .250 AI.
Had a memorable trip to S. Africa in 2010 for my fiftieth and plan to visit an old school friend in NZ later this year. Tahr, chamois and deer including whitetail if we make it to Stewart Island.
I'm mostly known for my past association with Ray Mears and the Woodlore Knife but my passion from the late 1960s has always been rifle hunting and stalking.
I've joined to sell odd bits and pieces and maybe finished knives when I'm too decrepit to travel to shows.
Best Regards,
Alan Wood

Welcome.
I have been using one of your knives for all of my deer and game field work for many years. It is still the best knife I have ever seen in every respect.
Anyone looking for proper workmanship with the best design and materials check out Alans work.

Hello👋
Do you have a website or any pictures of the knives you make
image.webpOne of Alan’s from 40 years ago when he and Harold came to stalk with me. A valued personal possession, seen active service on many occasions.

Hi Alan, trusting you’re aye well and a bit less ‘skint’ these days!

Welcome from suffolk Alan.
Id be interested in looking at your knives.

Sorry, no website but I've got someone onto it for when I'm too feeble to go to shows.
Aye, Freeforester, I remember that blast from the past. I also remember getting my first deer with you. I still think about that trip and the fantastic Caledonian forest you showed us. Still skint but ticking along. I hope you are still as fit as you were back then.
I'm not sure if it appropriate to show stuff in this thread but here goes:
RIMG1090.webp
Solway Stalker (4") and the current Mini-Hunter. Freeforester has an example of the first of these models.

RIMG1114.webp
Loveless style drop-point again 4"

R0010467.webp
At top is a Hereford model which, at around a 6" blade, is as big as I do these days.
I hope to have a selection of models in different materials and at various price points at the Stalking Show next month.
Thanks for looking.

How much do you charge for the 6 inch blade or the drop blade

Prices vary a lot depending on finish, blade steel and handle materials.
I'll have some "field grade" examples in standard 12c27 and AEB-L steel with brushed (machine applied satin) finished blades and standard handle materials for £280-350.
Also some with the better RWL-34 with hand-rubbed satin steel with higher grade handles like stabilised wood and G-10 for £320 to £450.
I'll also have a few with stainless Damasteel with best handle materials for £500-750.
I also have some heat treated blades in stock for future orders.

A few more while having a coffee:
R0010812.webp
A fancy Wychwood at top with ivory handle so it was a while ago.

RIMG1283.webp
Solway Stalkers for the man himself. Various stabilised maple handles.

I'll try to post some knives I'll have at the show when they are done.
