High Seat Security?

Evening all,

Having just installed a couple of galvanised, double high seats, I'm just wondering what people are doing for security?

They're in private woods, out of sight from any footpaths. I do see the occasional sign of a wayward wanderer though.

They're double strapped to the trees, but wondering if anyone has gone as far as chains or even an airtag tracker?

I'm possibly being paranoid but the idea of £700 odd of high seats going wandering is sickening.

Chaining high up with a climb prevention system (possibly a good idea to prevent a criminal from injuring themselves), and a few CCTV and detertech (smart water) signs wouldn't go amiss

The galvanised seats stand out dreadfully against a normal woodland backdrop. I’d try and break up the outline with some hessian or similar. We chain ours up with heavy duty motorbike locks / chains but know full well even that won’t stop a determined thief.

20m of camo netting arriving tomorrow. The plan was already to drape that around the seating area to disguise us

8mm chain (that is 8mm round) up high and a piston/pin type lock through the end links :tiphat:
ptfe spray the lock and gaffer tape a plastic bag over the lock.
Note any 2mm slitting blade on a charged battery grinder will cut the chain in 20 seconds :old:

Every East Sussex scrote will now be trawling their local woods for your high seats. I give them a fortnight at best before permanent relocation!

Bollx... I'm just going to have to spend every night in them. I'll tell the family they're on their own now.

It'll be a shame because I've 2 lovely kids with another on the way, and a cracking wife. I do think though, that trading them in for a lifetime of life in the woods with my rifles, would probably mean a longer and more relaxed life 😁

I use a hardened chain & lock on my folding portable one. As already said, it won’t deter someone intent on removing it & armed with a battery disc cutter, but it will prevent stop it being half inched, pushed over or otherwise damaged by someone stumbling across it.

Put the kids in them & let them have some fun - haven’t you seen home alone? kids can be very inventive when it comes to deterring the light fingered brigade 😝

Its a damn shame a combination of UK H&S, liability and FC grant exclusion has rendered the timber high seat a thing of the past, and only to be seen in 1970's German firearms catalogues.

And don't forget that if someone injures themselves while attempting to climb your galvanised high seat (irrespective of their right to be in said location) you may well end up in a Court with no leg to stand on if a;- meaningful warning signage was not displayed and b;- some attempt to arrest access to the ladder rungs was not in place.
