I think this might be what I've been waiting for.

Question for the experts amongst us. Would it be reasonable to expect a similar dawn/dusk performance as the full sized alpex 4k, or does the objective size govern the light gathering capabilities in digital units in the same way as conventional glass scopes?

I'm not an expert, or even a current pert, but yeah the big lens on the standard 4k alpex will result in it's low light/light gathering ability being that much better than the lite. The day time image should be identical.

Handled it at Nothern Shootjng Show and ordered one after discussion with rep for my new Merkel k3 in .243, said it would easily cope as tested on full bore calibres.

I watched a review earlier and the chap said the eye relief is only 25/30mm you need to have the scope almost touching your brow to see the whole sight picture, did you notice that?
Sounds like a potential black eye.
