Himalayan Balsam

Same story though - why control deer - crows - foxes when next door doesnt ?

I wouldn't mind if it was the same story as deer control, but it isn't is it? I can decide how I manage deer on my land, I've decided not to control any roe as there's not a huge number about and I like to see them in our woodland. This is based on my own experience. I would hate to be forced to control them by someone who knows nothing of my land. I also don't think everyone would be happy if all non-native deer were exterminated.

As I said, Himalayan balsam doesn't seem to cause any problems here, no bare banks and it is not the cause of erosion here. I don't want to pollute our water course with week killers, I don't want to cut it back now and risk harming nesting birds. It doesn't make sense controlling it when it will make no difference to It's spread.

Fair enough buddy

However i hope in few years when its got everywhere you wont regret not doing anything now

Oddly enough, the JKW and bamboo have made a valiant effort to come back this year at mine, I've had a steady reduction every year with various methods of removal, this year saw the bamboo come back early, and the JKW came in a little later so was harder to spot with other plants growing over it
Was thinking of planting bamboo in a corner of the garden as a windbreak, does it spread that quickly? I have a clump planted 20 years ago. Not much spread going on, but some of the wide stemmed varieties seem to spread a lot more.
