Hornady sst

Hi
Wondering if anyone else has has zero issues with these,
Having been reloading for several years with many calibres,
I’ve always found that the sst to be extremely accurate in my 308,7x57, and 6.5.
Now trying to get 130g sst in my 270 to group has been nearly impossible,
S&L 270 24 inch barrel 1/10 twist
Firstly thoughts were reloading process/ gun / scope/shooting,
Which all of these have been tested, with different rounds. And got decent grouping with factory rounds,
So I’ve now purchase the factory load 130g sst to which I have found out to also be awful in my gun.
Obviously people will say some rounds don’t shoot well In different guns which I get but,
To be getting a groups of 2 1/2 inch I thought is pretty poor.
Anyone have any issues with this,
Also recommendations for similar heads (what’s peoples go to)
Ideally a pretty all round bullet for deer

I use S&B 150 grainers which is the SST bullet supplied to them by Hornady but with a different coloured plastic tip and get very acceptable groups from my Browning bolt action, my shots on boar are around 100m max. All boar so far have dropped on the spot with a behind the ear shot position.

Are you using a vld insert with your seater? If not, this can result in a lot of runout which will obviously affect grouping.

I've never used VLD seater and the SST have been consistently accurate. I wouldn't think the SST was a VLD profile?

My 140 SST's in 6.5 were certainly slender enough in their ogive radius profile to be a contender if not classed as VLD. Used with a standard seater, it was pressing on the tip only without any contact on the sides, pushing them as much as 20 thou out of tolerance for run out, using a standard lee seater. I bought a VLD insert from Spud for the Redding micrometer seating die and hey presto, runout to within a thou or two and grouping issues sorted. Worth a check?

Your 270 doesn't like the SST. Mine likes nosler partition and accubond in 130. Also shoot the fox 130 well but went back to lead. I reload and find the nosler data gets you very close then fine tuning. Need shot hornady, a mate had similar issues with SST 150 grn in his 308, switched to other brand factory and fine.

Loaded 180gr Hornady SST's for my Sako 75 in 30-06, using 59gr of Hodgdon Superformance. Fabulous load, really accurate and very hard hitting. Best group was .874" in the field at 100 yards. I took them to Africa and shot a wide variety of animals, including Wildebeest, Impala, Warthog, Baboon, and Eland. Once hit I did not have to run after them, they are really effective bullets on big stuff.

Yes one was used even though I haven’t before never had any issues with any other rounds. The issue comes when the factory 130g loads shot the same so guessing it’s just a sst problem .

I think that’s the conclusion I’m coming to got a few noslers to try this week 🤞
