Hornady Super Performance 95g SST

Yesterday I was zeroing my new Mauser M18 .243 yesterday using Winchester Silver Tip 95g, Sako Gamehead 90g and Hornady Super Performance 95g SST, all 3 shot good tight groups, but the Hornady were probematic to chamber.

The Winchester and Sako chambered and bolt closed very smoothly but the Hornady chambered fine but took a noticable effort to close and lock the bolt - almost as if they were too tight. They also hada bit more kick than the other brands.

Is this normal for Hornady ammunition?

Possible headspace issue , if you can borrow a case comparator measure a fired case from the other brands and compare to an unfire Hornady. If the Hornady has a larger head to datum measurement then it will be more difficult to chamber .
If you've a 308 case , that could be used as a comparator in this scenerio . Alternatively , felt tip the case shoulder, chamber a round and check for witness marks . If you decide on the latter , safety first , outside and muzzle in a safe direction.
If memory serves me the Superformance 95 grain SST were quite hot and seemed a little sharper in the shoulder .

Unlikely a Hornady issue…just a case that your rifle isn’t so keen on them and prefers the others.

In all likelihood it’s just as others have suggested that they are a longer round.

Superformance are a rapid round hence the feeling of a little more zip. The Sako & Silvertips are also devastating on game so if they group well pick the one that is either cheapest or easiest to get hold of and go shoot. Don’t sweat the small stuff 😉👍

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that it's a Hornady issue given the number of threads on here and other forums .

Had the same problem with Hornady factory ammo, bolt very stiff locking & unloading, changed ammo never had the problem again.

I used these in my blaser r8.
5 boxes would shoot everything into the same hole then 1 box would shoot a 1-1.5 inch group. Same batch number ect.
