Hornady Z-Max?

Now and again, here and there, I read of shooters using/buying Hornady Z-Max projectiles. Where do these come from? Are they New Old Stock as they are not listed on Hornady's website?
Just wondering.

Cheers

They were at one time marketed in USA as a zombie killer. Typical marketing crap.

I recall a few comments on other forums about these being a V Max bullet with a different colour tip which were sold in bulk packs.

I had a pack from a German supplier a while back. They performed just like the standard Vmax (but way cheaper) and knocked zombies over with relative ease

They were as said above Vmax with a different colour tip sold in 500’s. An advertising gimmick. If I recall correctly it was when programs like The Walking Dead became really popular.

If you can, snap them up. I use them in .224 and 6mm and they work out way cheaper than 100 packs of V-Max, like a fraction of the price. To be honest, last time I bought them in .224 I was ****ed off I didn't buy more as I go through them at a rate of knots.

Performance etc is identical to V-Max. I was shooting hares way out there last night with 50gr Zombie killers.

I think they stopped producing them but do limited runs now, 50 gr are great out of my 0.223AI, will def snap some more up if I see them, provided they are still 40% cheaper than the V-max twin!

50gr Z-Max out of a .223 at 3400fps, hare exit wounds at a shade over 200m last night.

These little bullets are fantastic for varminting and due to their exceptional accuracy and explosive terminals I use them for head shooting goats too.

Guys, tell me please. Has anyone used the z-max/v-max for wild boar hunting? Are they effective or not? I have some in caliber 7.62x39 (0.310). I wouldn't want to make mistakes.
Thank you.

I have a dwindling amount of 50 grainers that I use in my .222 and a 500 box of 55gr waiting for a decision from me on where they'll be used. When the 50's are done I'll either use V-Max or maybe Sierra BlitzKing.
An aside: I've tested Sierra MatchKing 52gr in my .223 Heavy barrel. They are amazingly accurate. On papper I'm getting consistent three round groups of 0.2MOA or less. I'm aware that these are not intended for hunting but when culling kangaroos down here headshots are mandatory. A 52gr hollow-point doing 947m/s (3107fps) in the noggin will certainly do more than sting.

Cheers

Vmax and Zmax are the same bullet.

Personally, I wouldn't use them on boar; too great a chance of them splashing instead of penetrating. Even on thin skinned coyotes, this has been a problem.

ETA: My apologies, I responded to this thread thinking it was the other one asking about using them on boar (7.62x39).
