How important is it to measure powder correctly?

It's a scary world out there sometimes. One duck opening eve I was chatting to the farmer whose place I was shooting on as he reloaded some 12g for the morning shoot. All was pretty normal until it came to the powder. No measure was used. He just tipped powder in and judged by eye when to stop tipping it in or to add more. Same for the pellets.
