How to mount a skull to a board without drilling it

I was wondering it anyone has used a mount hook that that slots into the spinal cord hole so that you do not have to drill the skull to clamp it to a board? Allegedly this exists. Will there be differing sizes for different deer species?

Detest those things, binned them all. Unless the skull is cut perfectly, they’ll either not fit in, or be too lose and fall out, and you still need to drill a hole in the shield, so why not just screw into the skull from the back, below the brain cavity and above the nose is a joint that holds a screw perfectly well

I just put a loop of thin wire between the skull holes below the spinal / brain hole. Then just hang it on a nail. Can’t see the wire and super cheap. Have done it this way with reds although the ‘nail’ is a much bigger hook Rawl plugged to the wall.

I guess the wire just needs fishing around to get it through both or either sets of two holes? Then set a nail or screw in the board hanging on the wall. Okay maybe easier.

I used a small piece of 5mm rubber, which I think was from a car mat or something similar. I poked that inside the skull and then used a normal screw from behind the wood to go through the hole in the skull into the rubber. This grips the screw very well and offers some flexibility and less chance of damaging through over tightening.

Did a similar method, Drilled a pilot hole in the spinal bone in the base of the skull and put a floor screw through the wood and then a rubber washer that was found in the garage then into the skull itself. Seems to hold no problem at all, forgot to countersink the screw on the back of the wood so doesn't quite sit flush on the wall. I will attach a photo when I get home

Yes, this is how I did all mine, when I kept them.

Maybe after all of that I will just screw through into the skull as I have on other mounts?!?

I’m not saying have a medal head, but I thought it not good to tamper with it by drilling if it were.

I love the nuancing about on these threads, it helps save me from everything being so serious.
