Howa 1500 .243

I had a Howa 1500 in .243. Thumbhole stock, varmint barrel and floorplate mag. Cracking rifle and shot well. Moved it on when I purchased the manbun gun :)

Personally I prefer a detachable mag. Quicker and easier then a floorplate but pure personal preference.

Reasons behind your preference please VSS
You won't lose it. Or leave it at home.
When I got my first floorplate rifle I admit it took me a while to get used to it, and I even looked into converting it to a detachable mag. But I'm so glad I didn't. In fact, so much so that the next rifle I bought was exactly the same. Holds 5 rounds under the bolt, which is more than enough for most outings.
Using a detachable mag now feels crude and clumsy by comparison.

How is it quicker and easier?
You still have to put the rounds in your magazine one by one, just as I have to with my floorplate mag.
Only difference is that you then have one more action to carry out (ie, inserting the magazine into the rifle), whereas I'm already loaded up and ready to go.
Therefore it stands to reason that loading a floorplate rifle is quicker.

I’ve had a couple of Howa .243.
If you get one stick with the floorplate. The mag release on the conversion is a pain!
Other than that good rifles.

Assuming travel to ground with unloaded rifle and full mag in pocket. Arrive at ground, get out of truck, mag in , load round and off we go ...therefore quicker at the important end...but see your point :)

What I think you mean is, you assume the full mag is in your trouser pocket...

"At least, I thought it was....🤔
Perhaps it's in my jacket pocket.... Nope....
Oh, hold on [insert nervous chuckle here], it must be in the pocket of my fleece....
Nope...."

Dawning realisation....
It's on the kitchen table.
80 miles away.

🤣🤣🤣

:) In which case I totally agree with you. However stupidity applies regardless ... I left the .17 HMR bolt at home once...just an hour round trip to sort that :lol:

Thats why you should always keep a spare mag loaded in the glove box.

Joking

At one time I thought a loaded magazine was a legal no no unless on land or a range where one can shoot. Please correct me if wrong.

Joking?
Ok, maybe not a spare mag, but doesn't everyone keep a hidden stash of ammo in their vehicle, to guard against the possibility of forgetfulness.....?
Absolute no from me ... but I have to go to certain sites as part of my job ...and that would land me in a whole heap of trouble

I’ve had one for 16 years now, I thought it would’ve been shot out by now but still keeps hitting the spot. It shoots Privi Partisan 90gr sp into a sub inch group. Struggled to get 100gr to shoot well, best was about an inch and a half but gave up when found the 90gr shooting so well.

Mine has the earlier hogue stock which isn’t stiff enough for a bipod, I shoot off sticks or a rolled jacket so no issue. I think newer stocks were sorted.

Bottom plate, takes 5 plus one up the spout if you need it (can’t imagine a need though). Good cycling and never fails to feed nor do I forget it.

My pal noted it’s quite heavy v his browning x bolt, (I don’t find it heavy- lighter than my Mauser)it’s a sporter barrel.

As a working rifle (that gets knocked about!) I would buy another as consistently accurate. I used a 300wm with varmint barrel in Africa last year and that performed just as well, I think of them as the Toyota Hilux of the rifle world- not the nicest to look or fondle but do the job!
