howa mini 1500

What do people think of the howa 1500 in 223? Looking g6or something to drop into a chassis that wont break the bank but accuracy is priority 1. I was considering the tikka but there is a bit of a price difference there of about 400 euro since i can buy just the barreled action.

Does the howa give up mutch to the t3x in accuracy?

My underkeeper has one, heavy barrel in a thumbhole stock. With factory ammo,it cloverleafs at 100 yards, maintaining accuracy out to distance as well. It's a fast twist barrel, believe it's 1 in 8, it's certainly not ammo fussy as it's accurate with the whole range of bullet weight available.
I'd buy one if I needed another 223, for the price I doubt you'll better it performance wise.

Yea, not dealing with the import export on that one 😂 Once all that paperwork + Courier costs is done i could also buy a brand new Blaser

I plan to buy the barreled action and make a light AR style setup with a chassis, folding stock and a very light weight minimalist foreend. something that folds into a 80l backpack or fits into a holster on my trunk door. I wish they still sold the Elf Owl chassis for it but that seems to be discontinued

Now that i look at it, i think CZ may have bought up their last stock 🤣 going for 1800 here

@Karhumies

That's a beauty

Recently bought a howa 223 short action, sporter weight barrel. It's spot on. Just as good as my tikka.
sounds promising I intend to take it out to 300 for snall game and 500m for targets when iam done but i want headroom to go further with my build so i need something that with handloads can stack cold bore shots into a coin. A lot of rifles can technically do that including my CZ550, but doing it consistently from a cold barrel is where the barrel and action quality really show wether they are that extra step above average. And 1moa is average in this day and age with manufacturers giving 0.75 and 0.5 moa factory guarantees on what amounts to budget lines.

Originally i had been looking at a tikka tac a1 (too heavy) Ace game (essentially fixed stock) and CTR, the CTR being what i settled on.

bergara sierra Extreme was also considered but a 1:9 twist looks a bit limiting for the long range bombs i might want to drop (70+ grain)

Howa 1500 keeps popping up for builds like this.

Sounds like you want a a Tikka Tac A1 or a target ace - that’s already got what you need…

Ah! Sorry, just realised you are in Finland….surely a tikka would be better for you! 😂
yea but also more expensive. Unless i get a Lite but then i have to pay for the muzzle thread and picatinny on top. CTR seems the best package for mu use and costs 600 more compared to a howa barreled action from brownells

@Karhumies

This looks **** hot

So i have really narrowed down my search now. Howa 1500 mini or tikka t3x. There is a price difference there and i will be putting it in an aftermarket stock right off the bat

So more specific questions for anyone who owns one

how is the trigger on it? "good" isnt really descriptive. Is it light, clean, consistent?

does the bolt cause any issues with scope objectives? For instance The CZ527 great as it is has a bolt shape that really messes with mounting optics low if they have a large ocular.

It will likely have a 4-16x40 or something similar on it with a large ocular.
