Well said Michael, everyone knows my thoughts on this and on Scent Hounds nothing has changed , not from the start . Just Davie trying to cause trouble as per unusual.

First of all i will answer lee 6.5 i am not stiring but trying to clear up a very big missunderstanding that is on this site. Now i have a bitch that was born in this country out of a direct import this import came from RUDI . Now i really like the bitch and love the way she works and it really dose not matter to me if she comes from Hungary Germany Begium or Slovakia. What matters is that the people who are buying these dogs need to know the full truth and bits of it. Now if that is causing trouble then ok ask Admin to ban me. Now lee let me here your full take on these hounds and why we should get Rudi and the Baron or WIDU to import dogs for us. ?
So let me say what i think !! If you get Rudi to get you a dog it will be a good dog but no better than some of the ones we have here and some might be worse. Why do i believe this reason because a lot of the dogs here are Rudi ,S Imports that have been bred from eg RIA.
Can the dogs that are brought a cross be bred from NO are they KC no are they affiliated to the viron hershman (Sorry about the spelling ) no.

Now the only person to tell me how it is was Paul (WIDU) No bull no crap and no gilding the Lilly. My bitch is crap and !!!
So Paul and Lee (My learned friend) who accuse me are causing trouble my take on this is we are buying a dog a loyal friend for many many years we put in 1000,s of hour of work travel many thousands of miles to pick our dog do we not deserve the truth.

My thoughts on it are this.

If Rudi sources a dog (out of kindness and wanting to see the breeds doing well here, as he never charged me a penny in profit and only for his expenses in doing so) it will be one that he can vouch for based on his not inconsiderable experience and from a breeder who has a similar mindset to his, in other words not cash driven.

What happens once these dogs enter the UK is outwith his control and was based on trust in what the potential buyer told him at the time.

The breeding of these dogs by some has become money driven because they are rare and in demand, often for all the wrong reasons. I mean how often are they bred and the owner keeps a pup????? So why breed?????

The breeding programmes within the German Societies are unbelievably restrictive (that is a good thing) to ensure the future generations of that breed in their health and ability.

Please someone point out to me where a breeder in the UK has taken the time to source and determine the right dogs to mate to ensure this with UK dogs?

In other words, because of what many have done with other popular working breeds some of our scenthounds have health issues and are bred whether good at their job or not. Because there is a very small pool to choose good parents from is this problem going to get better? Nope, it is not. Think about it, we go on about dodgy guides on here, chancers and back stabbers. What if one of them has such a dog and knows a pup is worth a grand? That's 10,000 pounds per annum for one litter of pups!!!!! Of course they will bloody breed from them!

My dog was sourced in Hungary, a country known for its big game hunting and need for these dogs. She came from parents who are worked and owned by a vet. Rudi in fact tried to buy the sire some years ago as he rated him so highly. Not for sale though. I trusted Rudi to look through what was available and he came up with Whisky. Vouched for after 25 years experience and from a personal friend of his (the vet). Her paperwork is genuine FCI and many of the older generations on it have been tested for ability, shown on the pedigree.

She is not from a VH line. She may however, after scrutiny be acceptable to join one of the German societies and sit tests with them but she will never become a bitch to be bred from within that society. They don't need to breed from her as they only do that to replace lost or for dogs for new members.

So bottom line is, I have what I think is a fantastic dog in the making, sourced through a very knowledgable and trustworthy friend, from a reliable source from a country who's hunters and trackers know what makes a good dog. Plus the paperwork to prove her parentage.

I think that is a big step up from many dogs that are available in the UK...

Please do not think I am saying a UK bred dog cannot work and has health problems, I am not. But what has been done in their breeding in this country to ensure that?

Sorry. Was this thread not about truffleuntning wanting to gain a little info of working hounds etc.. Im all up for regulating breeding etc. and people buy hounds who do not stalk enough to justify owning a specialist breed, but thats not what the man started this thread for.

Your quite correct Steyr, but I think its is important that potential owners realise that because it says HS or BMH on the wrapper does not mean what they get will work as a true BMH or HS, therefore in a roundabout way it makes a difference to the answer to the original question asked???

from my bmh point of view she will wind deer and point but when in walking/ tracking mode will not lift her head from the floor and she totally relies on her nose planted to the floor I have only let her loose on one deer and the moment the collar came off and instict kicked in to run around the deer jumping backwards and forwards and baying I have only done this once as the deer in question was on in its last breaths and no danger of doing anything but it was a good learning for indy . I have been teaching her to bay and bark and normally is very timid calm dog till she starts tracking and switches into a completely different animal things are going slowly and i am real pleased but cannot comment on hs as i have only seen one work ,atb wayne

Please guys make this the last post on this subject my question has been answered
Many thanks
I did not intend this to end in a heated debate
THANKYOU
