It`s with great sadness that I learned today my good friend Hubert Hetherington stag1933 on here, passed away in hospital at 2.30pm this afternoon

Hubert was, as a lot on here will know, the font of all knowledge where deer were concerned, he was respected by all who new him

It was my good fortune to have Hubert as a friend and mentor for many years, thanks to him I achieved things that without his help would not have been possible

Condolences go to Rita Hubert's partner for over 44years

R.I.P Hubert Hetherington .. !P1010117.webp ...Thank you ! :tiphat:

That is sad news indeed. Whilst I had relatively little contact with Hubert, I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with him when I bought his old SBS shotgun. He was an absolute mine of information regarding deer and shooting of any description. His collection of trophies from all over the globe was impressive, as were his highly entertaining anecdotes from a lifetime of sporting pursuits. Truly a sad loss for the deer world

Left the Range

Ladies and Gentlemen.

lt is with much sadness that l must inform everyone of the passing today of Hubert Hetherington, also known here as Stag1933.
Hubert was the founder member of Penrith and District Gun Club as well as one of the first members of the Eden Valley Deer Management Group, he also began the Border Stalkers Rifle Shoot which he ran until only two years ago.
He was a great friend and mentor of myself and many others.

We are diminished.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend and my condolences to his family and everyone else who knew him. Regards SBM

I had the pleasure of Hubert's company on a few occasions . He was a man who could tell a good story, tell a good joke and was a font of all knowledge regarding deer. They don't make them like him anymore .

RIP Hubert

Some of his write ups/articles are fantastic. Well worth a read or re-read for both novice and experienced alike. Top sportsman. Would have been nice to have met him

Sad news indeed, I never met the man in person but had a lot of respect for the mans knowledge on red deer , we had an interesting discussion on twins in wild red deer, he was one of the very few people who could provide prove of the phenomenon.

RIP Hubert.

I had the privileged to have known Hubert for many years when we were both members of the St Hubert Club, given a rest to shot from, Hubert would soundly beat all competition in the clubs tests and upgrades. He spoke his mind to all, and was a mine of information to the new and established members. If you called him or received a phone call, you needed a cup of tea and a sandwich, he loved to talk on all deer subjects, and knew the answer to all my questions. Sadly his later years were dogged with mobility issues, yet he never complained about them, you had to move quickly when he was in his trike and in pursuit of a quest, or on the way to a quick visit that would turn into a marathon. He was a unique man that had boundless energy throughout his life, a font of knowledge freely given to those that wanted to learn the way of the deer, I'm blessed to have known him, and received his council as a novice many, many , years ago. deerwarden
