Yeh would be be any use to me though, no shotgun certificate
Hi all, I've recently been granted a pistol for humane dispatch, I've seen a couple of nice revolvers that are currently hold 6 shots, under my conditions it'll have to be restricted to 2 shots I was just wondering what is the process for this? Does it butcher the gun?
Is it just a case of blocking up the cylinder?
And what exactly is the reason for it, is it a trust issue with us or the potential for criminals to get hold of them ?
I don't really want to spend a bunch of money on something nice if its going to get ruined straight away.
I've used pistols before when I was in service and found them to be more of an annoyance than anything but have been advised to get one for work due to the amount on dispatch I keep doing otherwise I wouldn't bother with it.
Do you have actual ballistics for 410 out of short barrel pistol? Or are you talking about different form factor?there is also the question of needing a centre fire pistol at all, a .410 shot pistol gives you the much wider option of a shot cartridge from 2” to 3” and a slug that gives way more muzzle energy than a .38 special or a .357 Mag.
It’s actually very difficult to hit deer or indeed any other animal with a rifle fitted with optics from say 2-20m, even a shotgun can be quite tricky in very close situation. If you can’t almost touch it with the barrel of a rifle, or get atleast 20m or so away, a handgun is a far superior weapon.
A lot of people with Hd pistols just want to own a pistol!

I kind of doubt that 410 slugs will give better "anything" that 357 Mag in same barrel length. 410 slugs usually weigh under 100gr and operate at much lower pressure.

Hitting a 4” target accurately at 15 metres with a pistol is harder than with a rifle or a shotgun!Bull****. If you can't hit something with a shotgun at 20m give up shooting.

Not in a pistol it doesn’t, the .357 mag will develop more energy than a .410 with an equal barrel length.“To add to this thread , modifying a revolver like this should be illegal as in my mind it’s dangerous and weakens the gun.”
To add to your comment Rake Aboot it’s not imho the only concern when modifying a revolver, to add to risk of an unexpected dis-charge there is also the question of needing a centre fire pistol at all, a .410 shot pistol gives you the much wider option of a shot cartridge from 2” to 3” and a slug that gives way more muzzle energy than a .38 special or a .357 Mag.
Law abiding people are inconvenienced by the midge's whisker in hazard between a 6 shot and 2 shot cylinder, and the hassle of converting the former to the latter.I believe the requirement now is to mill out between the other chambers and weld in a partial steel ring to ensure the firearm cannot be resurrected (for want of a better word)
wouldn’t it need to have been re-proofed after such work?To add to this thread , modifying a revolver like this should be illegal as in my mind it’s dangerous and weakens the gun.
Not what I said at all is it? I said a rifle with an optic at 20m or under, or even a shotgun in very close situations.Bull****. If you can't hit something with a shotgun at 20m give up shooting.
What energy does a .357 mag of the same weight (1/4oz)produce with a 6” barrel at the muzzle? Not in a pistol it doesn’t, the .357 mag will develop more energy than a .410 with an equal barrel length.
More than a .410!What energy does a .357 mag of the same weight (1/4oz)produce with a 6” barrel at the muzzle?
357 will pretty much match a 410 slug , the slug shot from a long barrel and the 357 shot from a revolver barrel. What energy does a .357 mag of the same weight (1/4oz)produce with a 6” barrel at the muzzle?
Shorter barrels but derringer comparison for .38/.357/.410What energy does a .357 mag of the same weight (1/4oz)produce with a 6” barrel at the muzzle?
