The team at Gardner Guns are planning to put on a Hunter Style rifle Competition series next year with the first being in Feb

This is an exciting development which hopefully will appeal to anyone with an interest in accurate rifle shooting, self development, a sporting rifle and dialable scope and lastly FUN

I understand there will be separate classes for Factory Guns (unaltered) and non standard with a weight limit applicable to stalking / vermin control type rifle

The emphasis of this is to move away from the balance bag and rifle on a prop bench rest PRS type competitions that were once popular but really an arms race.

The comps will be open to all, have stages that will be along the lines of find the target, range it, shoot it from the area allowed be that what it may - basically practical and fun practical application of foxing / stalking skills

This should appeal to many of you here and while may put folk out of comfort zones it should give many the opportunity to get involved in a very enjoyable form of rifle shooting using kit you already own and use

I’ll post links to how to book when they are released

Although I can’t make it (and, being a soft Southern stalker, I don’t have dialable turrets on any of my scopes!) I just wanted to say well done on this initiative.

It sounds like it will be an informative and educational day, along with being great fun.

My immediate reaction was that Pete (@Roedinator) would have just loved this, so thank you for reminding me of happy times spent in his company.

Dom, Pete would have had a section for baton rounds.;)

The event is primarily focussed towards getting sporting rifle shooters involved and interested in a competition that is focussed towards the practical aspect and application of their skills using realistic scenarios/ shooting positions

If people were to look at Hunter style matches that are conducted in the states this may give a flavour of how the event is biased

Hopefully a graduated system for the more:rofl: rickety of us

The late Orka Akinse from ukvarminting was certainly not built for speed, we attended a comp and one of the stages was five’s stages and 40 rounds in the fastest time possible. I’ll never forget telling him “slow is fast” before running round like a blue arse fly and missing all the targets because my sound mod came loose. Orka walked round cleaned the lot and scored at the top.

I’m pretty sure that no one would care what speed you did it as long as you are there taking part and having fun.

I hope to go and won’t be speedy.

depending on the range you could use the ancient art of holdover ?

and different age classes was suggested earlier

the less rules and classes the better in my opinion but that needs a sense of fair play from everyone to prevent gaming the system

There will be a weight limit on modified (rebarrelled, semi customised, full custom) rifles to prevent “gamers” using “race guns”

The whole point of the event is practical application and development of rifle shooting skills

Not the ability to balance a light recoiling, heavy gun on a bag on a prop

What satisfaction would there be in "gaming" to win ? I don't get that mentality. I'd be in the semi custom class, but my 270.sure isn't a race gun.
