I can feel a variation coming (flintlock porn)

Seriously though, I have wanted a baker rifle for years. So excited pedersoli have released this reproduction and it even makes large deer legal energy in England!!!!!
One of my hunting buddies , a black powder freak like me , has ordered one of these . They aren't cheap , but Pedersoli makes really nice rifles . I'll be getting my sweaty little hands on it when I go back to Canada next Spring , I'm looking forward to putting a few rounds through it. He also picked up an older Lyman Great Plains Rifle for me from a mutual friend in Saskatchewan . It's a fast twist .54 cal barrel . I already have a .54 slow twist barrel that will work nicely with a bit of fitting . These rifles are very close to what was actually used back in the day . Pedersoli also makes a very authentic Plains Rifle . Spring is going to be fun .

always fancied a baker rifle , interesting that pedersoli is doing one

just looked it up and it appears to have normal rifling rather than the original two grove that fired a belted ball

Pedersoli's repro evidently shoots well (albeit in the hands of a master), but the finish and detailing strike me as jarring concessions to modern manufacturing priorities. I know they are trying to make it affordable, and that performance matters more than looks, but I can't love it in the way the estimable C&B clearly can - however infectious his delight. I won't be able to stop myself looking for a good original now, though.

I know the later Brunswick rifle had the 2 groove rifling for the belted ball, always thought the earlier Baker rifles had more grooves and were intended to use unbelted balls?

i thought the baker used belted balls but could also work as a musket if required with normal line infantry ammo?
