I come from the land of plenty.

Apparently it is their traditional Christmas dinner. Go figure. 🤢
We got on the pi$$ as young blokes at an out of the way place and ended up catching and cooking some carp. Even though we were gannets in the day the general consensus was "ah thats schitt" after a mouthful. I may have been 20 years old (?) and haven't gone back since. No doubt come the nuke war and when tucker is hard to come by they will then be delicious lol.

In my late teens I did a lot of sea fishing with my best mate, we heard that dogfish (lesser spotted) was quite edible. Apart from the fact skinning it was tougher than an eel, it had the texture of cotton wool and tasted like burnt tyres.

Still blokes where I come from although there may be a state that follows the line of "folks are dumb from where I come from"

Shooting carp was always a pastime for us...painting ya nails or shaggin` ya mate seems to be taking over ha ha

The Israelis forty some years ago farmed carp for eating and worked on one, to me they were not edible and vile don’t know if they still do. Great sport with big catfish In drainage ditches when ponds been drained and cats knew to take advantage of escapees and travelled from river to feed on them,we hunted with forks, pigs visited at dusk as farm not fenced and came down from Golan, girls plentiful.🙂

The skin will just rub off if you pour a jug of boiling water over it. Then cook Moroccan style. Delicious!

I visited a ruined monastery once and the monks there used to farm carp in a lake. They had a holding tank where the fish were placed when caught, it had a stream running through it so the carp were “washed’ for a few days before they ate them. This was supposed to help with the muddy flavour.
