Likewise, the toilet froze over!Like you I remember the winter of 62/62 only too well. We woke up to find snow up to the bedroom window. No central heating with ice "patterns" on the bedroom windows, just a log/coal fire in the sitting room. Had to dig out way out to the coal shed to get kindling and coal to set and light the fire. The only upside of it was that I made a heck of a lot of pocket money clearing people's paths with the old coal shovel!
We knew what snow was back then and we just got on with life, we had to and we simply accepted it - Nowadays if we get 2 or 3 inches of snow the whole country grinds to a halt and everyone is panicking!
What was the last one? Stormy Daniels?Must be a storm, surely it has a name....
Experienced similar in the winter of 81/82. Flying back from NZ in January(?), off loaded in LA to find the passengers from the day before still there as BA unable to do their leg of the shuttle between LA & Heathrow in 747 due to snow in the UK. A day later we’d managed to get seats on a KLM 747 to Schiphol & then on to Heathrow - clearly the Dutch knew more about flying when there was snow on the ground than the British!Bristol Airport closed for a while because of snow,Yet a plane could take off from Reykjavik but not land At Bristol![]()
Reminds me of that joke when Trump was President before. What was the last one? Stormy Daniels?
Or they behave the opposite and refuse to be told what to do because they are stubborn bastards. The problem with today’s society is that it can’t take responsibility for its own actions.
So the govt / media has to warn them that it’s going to be windy/snowy/rainy.hot/cold/foggy, etc and to take care when walking with pointed toast because they no longer can work it out for themselves. And if they happen to not realise that said weather is happening and they haven’t been told to take care and get into a pickle (like going for a stroll on the seafront in a force 10 gale), then it’s everyone else’s fault that they are a moron!
With increasing technology we have seen indirectly proportional drop in intelligence and common sense!
Welcome to the brave new world!!
There’s something to be said for that in the shooting community too. Cough cough…With increasing technology we have seen indirectly proportional drop in intelligence and common sense!
Welcome to the brave new world!!
What gets me is when these morons decide, as you say, to ignore advice / warnings and do the opposite and get into difficulty then they expect others to come and rescue them.Or they behave the opposite and refuse to be told what to do because they are stubborn bastards.
“I’m not going to have my vaccination because it’s my right not too” soo all the hospitals are rammed with flu so people die.
More people will die because of poor uptake of vaccinations than winter fuel payments.
hmmm yes i sprinkled it wit some salt and pepper bsHmm. Are you sure that’s seasoned

I know the MR / Coast Guard / RNLI etc will always come out no matter the danger, but it’s not fair that they have to risk their own lives just to save some pillock who couldn’t be told.
I get it that sh!t happens sometimes (I spent many years as a mountaineer and ice climber in Scotland and in the alps) but we always heeded the advice of the local guides and MR teams in terms of avoiding areas which were particularly hazardous.
Seems that today a large proportion of the population have a laissez faire attitude to the safety of others when deciding ignore advice and guidance, which then leads to the nanny state we are in.
Vicious circle!!
Pretty standard.Bristol Airport closed for a while because of snow,Yet a plane could take off from Reykjavik but not land At Bristol![]()

Winter of 87/88 in Germany a pleasant Wintex living in trenches for two weeks.
Wind chill -38 up at Bergen Hoehne ,4 people casevacked with frost bite .5 ft of snow absolutely arctic.
But the Germans kept the roads open, planes and trains ran,Britain is a joke in winter.
Get some decent winter tyres/ snow chains, carry a shovel and waterproof clothes.
If your trying to go far a flask of coffee and some chocolate bars .You might not get there if 10m.p.h panick monkey crashes and blocks the road .
I broke down about 20 miles from home a couple of months ago (on a main road, outside a police station) at around 17:00. It took the RAC over 8 hours to recover me, so yes, a book would have been nice.Often overlooked for car kit, a book, nothing worse than being stuck with nothing to do. A good book can let those stuck hours fly by.
Christ have you got a stock on that rifle?Yep - it is a bit chilly about -5C yesterday morning when I was ‘in the office’
Out again last evening & the door handles froze shut on the Disco in the two hours I was away from it!!
Now if only we were going to get some decent snow down this end of the country️
