impact marks inside Stalon mod

It amazes me how people worry and faff about heavy copper bullets, they must be safe to use because their permitted to sell them!

Longer bullet just means less powder meaning not so quick and in my opinion less is more!

I mentioned the other day, bloke bet me £100 I couldn’t get 150gn barnes ttsx to stabilise
In My 18” 7x57 😂😂

Easy money!

What did he spend the money on?

Doesn't look like bullet strike to me, more like corrosion than anything else - there is ‘furry’ material in places & the damage in the threads cannot have been done with the parts screwed together.

How do you store & treat your mod?

Please can the OP confirm the model of Stalin product?

All mods are consumable but it’s the construction that dictates just how fast.

You almost have to factor it in to the round count. Hence I went inconell over titanium for my Oceania defence mod. An extra 100g for better attenuation and work life.

Took it back yesterday to Ian Hodge where I bought it last November and they sent it off to Stalon to see it. It has had 55 rounds through it.
Apparently there have been some recalls on Stalon mods but hard to find out much or which models.
Will keep updated.

I had an X108 with a very similar experience, it had only done 160 shots in 3 months of age and blew a small hole in itself and ate the baffles as well. Sent back to Stalon, they cut it in half length ways and blamed it on corrosion... at 3 months old - no warranty or replacement, so get ready for that reply I would imagine.

Thanks for letting me know, mine had 55 proveable rounds through so not good at all.Hopefully Ian Hodge will look after me if Stalon dont. The internet can help soetimes.

Dealer has the mod back and they got in touch with GMK who sent them a replacement front half of the mod (part with damaged or burnt baffles) and dealer asked if I wanted to collect and see how I get on with it.
One problem if they replace the rear half which has 2 impact or gas burns, is that Stalons have a serial number so this route means me sending off for a variation to replace mod. Total pain in arse!!!
When I asked dealer what is the situation with the warranty if i accept it back with the existing damage to back half and continue using it , and what is the actual problem that's causing this after 55 provable rounds ,they got back to me and said GMK now want to look at it in their workshop to identify problem. I thought it would be Stalon who need to confirm ,but waiting to see if I get offered a new mod or if the old one fixable.
Hoping its sorted before the roe rut!

Update on mod.
Ian Hodge sent it back to Stalon ,who didn't know exactly what the cause was ,Stalon suggested a bad drop/negligence (THIS MOD HAS NEVER BEEN DROPPED,WAS REMOVED AND DRIED BEFORE STORAGE AND ONLY 55 FACTORY ROUNDS)but because
of possible fault in mod kept old one and are giving Ian Hodge a new one for me to collect once my variation comes though. Stalons have a serial number unlike most others so cant be replaced easily so bear that in mind.

OP:
NOT impact

general erosion

The white is the stuff you need to be neutralising
Crystaline compounds from the acidic vapour left in the mod after use.
Use a light oil (NOT WD40) and spray internally

The one on the edge of the rear is the one you should be worried about
That is beginning to burn, the rougher the edge the more burn
If you continue to strip it you will start compromising the thread gas seal and the pressure leak will exacerbate the hot spot

We have a box of shame of numerous mods, several Stalons
Aluminium when cleaned removes the carbon, with it comes some of the anodising, exposing bare aluminium alloys.
Aluminium alloys which can be ignited with a kitchen blowtorch and burn like a flare.

Stop stripping and focus on neutralising the acid

On a warranty topic Stalon (read: GMK) stopped honouring the warranty after the second return of X108s and Victors with holes midway up the tube.
Stating that the moderator had been abused, not stored properly and was not covered by warranty as a result
These were sub 6m old with minimal use.

Looks like gas cutting to me. Seen similar on ss baffle on my wildcat with .204. Hot and fast.
Better off buying another moddy. Get your money back and don't buy a moddy with a serial no on it!
D

Yes to be honest I dont want another Stalon, getting a variation again will be a real pain, and dont know if they will honour it again. Not sure where i stand with Hodges if they say I must take the replacement?
