Anybody know if theres any tax/import duties charged when it arrives in the UK if i get a scope from optics trade eu

Yes under £135 collected by seller, over your pay duty and vat I think

anything from China now gets taxed as the scheme finished At start of year,

It's my understanding that either Optics trade eu will charge you VAT at 20% at the time of purchase, or if they don't, you'll have to pay the VAT when the good s arrive in the UK
Depending on which company they use to send the goods (ParcelForce, Fedex, DHL etc), you'll also have a handling charge to pay for them clearing the goods through customs

Cheers

I ordered a scope form them recently, I chose DHL shipping and had to pay VAT and duty, etc to DHL. Still worked for out marginally cheaper than UK sellers, but the main motivator for me was that the UK stockists were all quoting huge lead times for the model I wanted. I had it in a couple of weeks from Optics-trade.eu 👍🏻

thanks chaps , the scope is the same price here as they are charging , but as said talking up to three months lead time here , i have sent them an email asking the question but am waiting a reply , it is advertised as tax free but im slightly wary of that

If it helps ask them about sending to NI (including price) which in customs terms is still subject to EU rules. If reply is favourable then pm me.

Update , reply back from o/trade eu , 20% tax and 5% duty when it enters the country , so on the scope i want it adds an extra £145 , now buying from elsewhere 👍

Scoundrels
Maybe I have misinterpreted your comment but I'm not sure why they are scoundrels.

On their website if I change my location from DK to UK the price goes down by approx 22.5% which is effectively VAT free and then you pay VAT and a fee to the carrier when it arrives in the UK.

I am not sure what exactly you pay when ordering from the EU but it is possibly the same when we in Ireland order from UK now that it is outside the EU. We do not pay VAT on the purchase to the UK but we do pay it on entry to Ireland. However the payment of VAT is on the cost of the item PLUS the cost of carriage and also (i think) on the collection charge by the carrier. There are no tariffs on goods that i have looked at but that may not be true in the case you are referring to. You would need to check that yourself.

All told it makes it uneconomic for me to purchase from UK unless the item is very cheap to begin with so i am thinking you may well be in the same boat.

Interesting from my perspective up North, thanks.
So if you order from the same item from say Germany what do you actually pay for? I.e is there a saving worth the effort?

I ordered a Zeiss scope & mounts from Optics Trade-EU on the 18 May, the invoice indicated that the VAT charged was at 22% (clearly the VAT rate in Slovenia, Irelands is 23%). As it's coming to Ireland there will be no other tariffs.
However it still has not been dispatched despite a multiplicity of emails and assurances of good service by the company. My frustration level is through the roof! I'm hoping this is just an unusual misfortune, not some evidence of skulduggery.

as i said the scope in optics warehouse is £595 , but the lead time is two / three months , the scope in xtreme tactical ( who ive ordered through ) is £585 less 5% discount , should be here within 10 days , scope in optics rade eu is £580 delivery £25 1-3 days , then when scope arrives in the country , bang goes on the tax and duty , totally out pricing the scope , and yet there is a misleading little sign on the dvert saying tax free

I hope I am not breaking any rules with these posts, my sole intention is to provide proper information.

Unfortunately, the delivery of your order has really been prolonged way over our reasonable time frames. In 2021 a lot of manufacturers have problems with deliveries due to the global problems in the delivery chains.

I hope you can accept our apologies for the situation that happened. We try hard to always provide the best possible service but on rare occasions we fail. Customer satisfaction is however at our core values.

Your order will be shipped at the beginning of next week and as a token of our appreciation for your patience, we would like to refund you the amount for shipping and the mounts.

If, however, you would prefer to cancel the order, we can also refund you the full amount.

I would like to apologize that the TAX free sign is not visible enough. Brexit did catch us a bit unprepared and we are currently in the process of registering with UK tax authorities. When this process is complete we will include the UK VAT TAX and customs fees back into the prices and the deliveries will be much easier (no stopping and no hassle for the customers). At the moment we are offering this option at the checkout where customers can choose a shipping method with all fees included and delivery to their door without anything needed from their side.

In the meantime, we will put a bigger notification for our UK customers that VAT tax is not included in our prices and need to be paid when receiving the goods.
