Did you know that there was once a gun shop opposite The Printworks?

I remember the shop, it only closed in 2011. Apparently it was bought (I presume the stock) by John at Cheshire Gun Room!

Stensby's used to be a 100 or so yards higher up Shudehill when I started going in the shop. They moved to the location shown in the article when the tram track was built (right through the old shop).

Cheshire Gun Room bought the name but I wouldn’t be so sure they bought the stock.

Sold my Stensby, 12g sxs a couple of months ago, nice gun, very nice wood too.

Hi,
Back in the late 1950s/ early 60s Stensby’s shop was on the right hand side of Withy Grove as you turned in from Corporation St.
They later moved to a bigger shop higher up Shudehill on the opposite side. This shop was on a corner I think.
If you phoned them the answered with: Stensby The Gunmaker.
I remember the first Saturday I went there (30 mile round trip on the bus) with a school buddy. They were closed on Saturdays! Was told it was because the owner was Jewish.
They always had glass cases displaying their own collection of a wide range of firearms.
