Evening all, Ayrshire Based, nearing 30, and just starting out on my stalking journey. Have a couple of guided days booked for between Christmas and New year and can't wait to get started. Been shooting shotguns for a few years and I'm a Regular clay shooter and do a bit of rough shooting on the farm where I work. Luckily enough my boss has also given me permission to shoot foxes and deer when my firearms application goes through. (Here's hoping it doesn't take as long as my shotgun did.) Have the paperwork sitting ready to submit but i've been researching calibres for a month or so now and still a bit stuck. I think I'm looking at either .270 or 6.5CM. I know it's very much personal preference but open to any advice from more experienced shots.

Welcome mate, did you book with Joe pettigrew or South Ayrshire stalking ?

The 270 would cover you for everything in the area , the 6.5 will too,the 270 may suit the boar a little bit better that may enter your patch....
See what you prefer shooting is the best of advice i can give you.

Maybe consider a 223 or 22250 for your fox rifle

Should probably have added that I'm a lefty..which makes finding anything nice somewhat more difficult. Was in Glasgow Field Sports today and was playing with a Beretta BRX1. Easily swappable from right to left handed.
