Hi All,

This is a quick introduction about myself.

I'm still new to stalking. I've got a passion for submission grappling; after several rounds of sparring, I was chatting with one of the chaps and it turned out he was a stalker. I'd never heard that you were allowed to stalk deer in the UK. I started researching online (stalking, equipment, rifles, calibre, etc).

I signed up with a Syndicate and sorted out shooting tuition as I had never used any weapons before. I signed up for PDS1 after considering DSC1; primarily due to the limited availability of DCS1 dates (and I got a discount as an NHS worker). A mentored stalk is planned to take place in about 3 weeks. I intend to apply for my FAC today. I intend to join a shooting range after the summer holidays.

About myself:
I'm born in the Netherlands, a dad to 5 children, 46 years old, I grapple 3-4x a week, live in the Birmingham area and I'm dual registered as a Prosthetist/Orthotist.

Stalking/calibre
I have no specific preference regarding species. During the shooting tuition I handled the following calibres: .20 rimfire, .222, 6.5 Creedmore and .308. I prefer the 6.5 Creedmore as a calibre due to the lower recoil.

Good choice if you run 100 grain bullets , if you wanted lighter recoil again .243 win as you can go even lighter bullets . Birmingham is surrounded by muntjac and you can then go right down to 55 grain for even lower recoil and up to 100 grain in lead
There is also a wide range of other 6.5mm and 6mm rifles that facility more or less muzzle energy .
Yes a lot of other nations think us brits cannot have firearms , but that is really we cannot use them in defence and you must have a licence for it ( which involves having a good reason and provable good character )

Ditto to the .243 big fan and prices for buying rounds isn’t too sickening… can’t say I know the going prices for 6.5. A friend of mine has started using a 6mm and he’s a big fan but probably best to ask around
