Introduction: new to stalking

Hi there,

My name is Jordan and I'm completely new to deer stalking. With the impending arrival of my first child, I have spent many months trying to find a way to source more sustainable and ethical meat, and I keep coming across the idea of deer stalking. I love spending time in the wild and have tremendous respect and admiration for the wildlife we have in the UK, and I think deer stalking would be a great way to source healthy venison for my growing family.

I live in Northamptonshire and I'm now looking at stalking sites across the county (and beyond) to get up and running. Any advice or guidance is welcome, and I'd be happy to chat.

Welcome from Essex, congratulations on the impending baby! Me and the Mrs had our first in July last year I started stalking in October for a similar reason to yourself. Do you do any shooting currently or will this be your first venture into it? there are plenty of people on here that should be able to help you out, when restrictions lift get on some paid stalks to get your experience up. would also recommend getting some insurance form one of the relevant organisations out there as better to be safe than sorry!

Hi Tom, thanks for the warm welcome!

This will be my first venture into shooting, so i'd like to get some decent time in on a range before going out on a stalk. I'll be sure to have a look through some insurance options and keep my ear to the ground for good paid stalking opportunities for when we eventually return to some normality.

As a newbie to shooting in general, I would suggest looking for a local shooting club to join and get some much needed experience in.

It'll also get you talking to the folks there and you never know might find someone willing to take you out stalking from that club.
