Hi, I'm completely new to deer stalking. Since having a holiday in Finland and eating wild venison (Reindeer) for the first time. Since then I've ordered venison from hunters using a Facebook page. I've developed a keen interest in becoming a hunter myself. I have no background in hunting. My goal for joining this site is to learn more about how to start and to source reasonably priced gear. As I'm starting from nothing I'll need to build up my kit gradually. I'm listening to podcasts and watching YouTube channels. I have access to a large private woodland to stalk once I'm capable. For now I'm going to order deer in the fur to learn the butchery side with help from meat eater YouTube. Any advice about getting started is very welcome. I have asked a couple of hunters for some guidance but I'm drawing a blank. I understand people are very busy and may not want to waste their time with a complete novice.

Welcome from Essex, best bet would be to take a look in the opportunities section and try to find a local enough guide, so you can see if you like it, gut feel would be yes, then from there look to do dsc1 as a foundation for knowledge and keep going with guides until your able to head out on your own with your own fac

Thanks mate, I've seen a DSC1 course in Nottingham which isn't too far from me. I'm going to start target shooting and then go out with a local guide. Cheers for your reply.

Welcome from Warwickshire!

I can deffo recommend doing your DSC, it teaches you all sorts of things and is really worth it.

Enjoy!
