Sitting in my local hostelry with a few mates yesterday afternoon after the football, talking all things BS, as we do.

My nephew, who was among the group and soon heading off to a music gig, bought two bottles of beer, one for himself and one for a mate to drink in the taxi en route (the journey was only 10 mins ).

I asked him if he had a bottle opener, which he had, then one of the other mates pipes up with, 'just wear your Barbour', confused, I asked what he meant, he went on to explain about the Barbour zip pull, doubling up as a bottle opener?





My mind was blown!!

Is it true?

Interestingly, the jacket in Skyfall is a Barbour Beacon, which is one of the few models that doesn’t feature the iconic zip, instead using buttons down the front.




Bond does indeed drink a martini in Skyfall, when he’s in the casino, but the two more prominently featured drinks are the Macallan (he’s served a 1962 vintage by Javier Bardem) and Heineken, which shows up a couple of times, including when he’s supposedly “dead”.



Heineken paid $45m for their tie-in with Bond in Skyfall!

ive got a Barbour in cupboard i thought was the jimmy bond model but its a zip I'm sure....
does it say model number / name on them?... I'm home later today ... weather changing so time to dig it out ..

as for comment about warm and dry in a Barbour... i always found them top notch... a few long walks home from the pub when taxi not on the go ( usual)
so i stuck a buff hat n scarf in pockets in preparation always did its job

The Barbour "bottle opener" zipper gave me a good scare as a 14 year old, catching on my shotgun trigger and blowing a hole in the ground a couple feet in front of me.

Neither the Beacon nor the Commander B, which was derived from the Beacon, have a zip front closure. They appear to have plenty of labels in them, but not sure whether that includes one with the model number/name.

The great blessing of the Internet is that has provided a shop window to all the nerds out there.

Doesn't matter whether it is James Bond's tailoring and drinking habits, the vagaries of old tractors, fixing/modifying watches or whatever - there will be someone out there who has a sufficient obsession in a subject to post an article on a website!
