Just received a Davide Pedersoli Droptine .30-30 Lever Gun for Testing

Interesting rifle very similar to their .45-70 BoreBuster that I tested last year. Has a threaded barrel, vertical/horizontal adjustable cheek riser and I was wondering if anybody on this site has used one for target shooting or hunting. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I like it because it's a levergun, I get leverguns but I'd want walnut, without that cheek nonsense!
If it encourages levergun use in the UK then so be it but I'll believe it when I see it!

I would totally agree about the stock, I'm a walnut lover myself, especially on a lever gun. I'll be testing for reliability, accuracy and groupings as always however I just wanted input from others like yourself on first thoughts or if anybody has used one. Thank you for the input.

Look forward to your report 👍🏻. Glad it's in 30-30.

That's one real ugly rifle.:eek::eek:

There may be one or two strange persons in the U.K. who would like to own something different just for the sake of being different, but otherwise I wouldn't think there would be much of a market for such a thing over here. Probably well built being a Pedersoli, but if you were in the market for a .30-30 underlever why would you buy a rifle that has an offset mount when you can buy a Marlin?

Oh dear, what a mess, was quite excited when I opened this as I'm looking for a 30-30, but so disappointed in this!

Certainly a different look for a lever gun.

I love lever guns , but this doesn't blow my hair back to be honest . Being a Pedersoli , I'm sure it's a quality firearm , but it leaves me a bit flat . I've never been a fan of offset scopes , I've owned a few Winchester 94's , one in 30/30 and another in 32 Special , that came with a weaver side mounted scope . They throw the balance of the rifle off and make them feel awkward , I discarded both side mounts immediately . It is equipped with a scout scope compatible rail , I'd use that in preference to be honest . As 8x57 points out , I'd prefer a marlin 336 if I was looking to put a scope on a lever gun .
I do wonder why they utilized an 1886 action for a 30/30 . That's a big action for that size of cartridge . Not to be a downer brother , but I'd pass on this one , but I'm sure there will be many who don't . Thanks for posting .

I've nothing against lever action rifles but as others have said it needs a walnut stock. Composite stocks have their place but not on a lever, kipplauf or double rifle or s/s shotgun. Here in Scandinavia. 30-30 is a class 2 caliber with its use confined to roe deer and beaver so would never sell well.

You're an old fart like me Alan.
I agree composite stocks just don't look right on some rifles and shotguns, but have you seen some of the Kipplauf rifles with carbon fibre stocks coming out of Ferlach recently?

Old farts we may be Mike but at least we still have a bit of class. That's the problem with some of today's firearms buyers, they lack class. Sauer made a rifle that had a nice walnut stock and then put rubber inserts where there should chequered. To my mind that was so wrong in so many ways. I've even heard that there are classless phuckwits who put a moderator on a kipplauf.

I’d need the scope on the right as I close my left …..hang on……how would I feed rounds then…..and where’s the bolt?

PS its plug ugly

30-30 are class 1 with Hornady leverevolutions or handloaded. With the change to 2000j/100m with copper its even easyer to get to class1.

Its a strange rifle as you can get a better looking rifle with side ejection from Henry or Marlin. I guess the product line for 86/71s were running slow so this type of gun can be selled cheap on the US market, its many states who have a deer hunting season for straight wall cartridges. Some modern leveraction competition shooters use the old type of action because they are faster dont know if this type are faster? I would like one in .348win more tradititional style.

Just checked some prices on leveractions here in Sweden. Pedersoli Boarbuster 45-70 2700£ !?! , Pedersoli 1886 45-70 2100£ 2100£ beautiful rifle.

I can buy a Uberti Win High Wall in 45-70 for 1100£ and a Uberti 1894 30-30wcf for 1410£ =2510£.

Yes , they're not cheap . I'd take the High Wall to be honest .
