Karl Kaps 'Scopes

Good Evening,

Has anybody on here use one or got any constructive comments regarding them (and in particular the Classic 2.5-10x56 FFP illuminated model)? They look to be well specified and made from what I've seen on the internet but I've not seen one in the metal. Cheaper than the mainstream German offerings so I'd expect them to be possibly not quite in the same league but is the difference really noticeable in the field? Looking for a new 'scope to go on my .308 T3x stalking rifle and thinking one of these might well be an option.

hi l have (2 ) 2.5-10x 56 not the illuminated one l been used them for over 8years l find them as good as the s/b l find that the illuminated one are not very good at night with a lamp l think there a good scope for price my you that my opion

The scopes may be ok, but the company is a mess.

I had ordered a scope directly with Kaps 1 1/2 years ago via their own online shop. The stated delivery time was 1 week. After two weeks (having paid the full price on ordering) I kindly inquired on the whereabouts of my order and was stunned about the reply. 'Oh, this must be a mistake in our online portal. These scopes still need to be manufactured. We expect to have them back in stock in about 3 months.' Oh, well, I thought, I'm not in a hurry, ok, let's wait.
In the meanwhile I had moved to another city and I informed Kaps about my new address, which I had previously already announced to their head of sales on the phone.
Eventually, after SIX months (not three as said earlier) the scope was sent to my old address. Jesus Christ!!!
When they finally sent it to my new address I was very disappointed. It was indeed the model I had ordered, but the outer appearance was a totally different one than the one advertised. And also the reticle was not according to spec. I had ordered the Invariant reticle with very sharply pointed beams. However the scope was equipped with a simple German #1.

I wouldn't want to deal with such a company in a service/warranty case. I sent it back and reclaimed my money which had been parked there for half a year..

I bought some binoculars, there was a bit of something dangling inside them, it wasn’t very big but it was quite noticeable. I sent them back for a refund. I’ve not tried the scopes.

Have you seen the Minox ZX scopes being offered at a great price by MacLeod on here? I would be more tempted by the Minox than the Kaps tbh.

I had a classic 2.5-10x50 illuminated from Kaps. Optical quality close or the same as S&B on the one I had. My friend still has the scope and it is holding up well. Illumination knob is by far not as good as S&B/Meopta. Very large knob which is very slow to adjust brightness. Deer is out of season until it is adjusted. The illumination is also purely dusk dawn and not as bright as a flash dot or Meopta R2 series.
I would get another but without illumination. Kaps make their scopes but import the binos. My Kaps binos are in the bin in the meantime. Last just until warranty runs out.

buy yourself a second hand schmidt, ziess or swaro rather than a new kaps they have the "not quite this scope or that scope" about them but they command a lot of money new and as soon as youve opened the box it comes in you will have lost around a third of that money, on the other hand a second hand scope from the big 3 will be worth what you paid for it in 5 years time and a lot easier to move on and you will never be wondering what if

I have a 2.5-10x50 illuminated and have to say I was a little underwhelmed for a few reasons. The illumination works fine at low light but isn't bright enough really for daylight use and is pretty clunky. The reticle has a very fine central dot and then a pretty significant gap before the thin stadia - I find it too easy to 'lose' this dot against darker backgrounds, particularly on lower mag levels given it's FFP. Finally, and I'm not sure if it's an FFP thing or perhaps because it's mounted close to the barrel, it seems very regularly affected by heat haze after a few shots - not a consideration while hunting, but can make zeroing more challenging.

Thanks for all your comments. I decided to give the Karl Kaps a miss and I've gone for a Schmidt and Bender 2.5-10x56 Klassik instead. Bought it from R. MaCleod & Sons, good price and service.
