Keeping a rifle clean while camping

Can’t remember the make but somewhere in my various bits of kit I have a portable cleaning kit that fits into a zip up pouch I more then 4” diameter & 1.5” thick. Instead of a rod it uses a nylon coated wire pull through that you screw the cleaning attachments to. Includes brushes & also an ‘eyelet’ that you thread a patch through.

Re some of the comments above about dragging oiled bore snakes etc through, all good when you’re off to bed but then before use you’ll need to put a clean patch through to remove the oil from the barrel!

I'll be away in warm and wet conditions for a couple of weeks and I have no space for a cleaning rod or aerosols in my pack. My rifle barrel is not stainless and I want to try and look after it as best as possible.
I can't think of anything better than packing a Boresnake or similar, and maybe soaking it in Legia or WD40 beforehand.

Does anyone have any better suggestions?
Do what they did in Normandy in 1944 as per my late friend Clifford Owen on Hill 112 with the DOCLI. They pulled their rifles through every day. Just use a good quality make of pull through. That won't break the cord off when being used. Or...use one of the "Kleen Bore" coil up steel wire type devices.

Bore boss is a great brand to use. They are steel cable rather than the usual rope in a pull through, they come in their own storage case which is pocket sized, and you can buy small cans of napier VP90 spray which is perfect for spraying over the rifle to keep corrosion at bay.

I would also invest in a lightweight water proof cover /slip for the rifle, especially when strapped to your pack. This keeps the weather and muck out of the rifle and scope in the first place and prevents damage to what an expensive piece of equipment.

Insulation tape on the muzzle. Dry patch the bore properly before you put it on, and replace it each time you fire a round.

I've run tests shooting groups with and without tape and it makes zero difference to group size or POI.

Blaser is sure to launch a "Moderator Rubber Johnny" kit sometime soon.... suitable for rifles up to and including 6.5mm Creedmoor...

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned
