Keeping safe from tick

Just thought I'd share a tip that I do when I'm skinning a head for a trophy or in this case taking the canine teeth out to be us in another mount.
I always skin the head on a cheap puppy incontinent pads that way you can see the small nymph ticks crawling from the head and you can kill them before they get anywhere you don't want them. Hope this helps someone not getting bit.

Nice idea.
While talking 'tick tricks' I wipe over my dog and my own exposed skin with "Dr Bronners liquid soap" with Lavender oil, a little splash on a damp flannel before stalking in high tick count areas. Seems to keep them off and no long exposure toxic chemicals on the dog.
Incidentally Lavender is the only plant I have found that Muntjac never seem to eat.

I aways double bag the head and carcase separately to reduce the risk of tics as I usually have to carry them some distance. Care has to be taken that the antlers don't poke thru the bags letting the wee beasties oot. Then straight into the freezer when I get home as I'm always far too busy to process buck heads. Just gives more time as they need careful prep.

My freezer froze some cinnamon JD a few days ago, but nope the ticks still survive in it! 💀can freeze 35% alcohol, but not kill a tick apparently.
