Kennel and dog run care

Well it works an absolute treat in the washing machine, final rinse with dogs beds, I have it and can testify that it works. The dilution rate is such that a 5l will last for yonks,

power wash the floor, let it dry and coat with Thompsons brick seal. This will make cleaning the floor much easier. Have you got a drain in the kennel so any liquid drains into it?

I agree, sealing the concrete is the way ahead. Bare concrete is porous and will absorb the urine and then give off the smell even when washed and dry.

when i initially built the run i used bonding agent on its surface so the cements not allowing any pee to saturate the concrete. the smell just seems to linger after i wash it. i have used aerosol spray and all.
i will get some of the liquids mentioned and try them. jeyes is so potent a smell which makes the pee more acceptable.
there is no drain as such only a soak away area yet the smells not from that area.

Try you local farm store, We have a farmways locally where I get carbolic disifectant in 5 litre cans for £14 which is a hell of alot cheaper than jeys fluid.
Its is really good as removing peepee pongs and doesnt smell as bad as jeys.

Are you sure the wooden fence hasnt been sooking up the pish over time and thats what honks?.Never had bother of that before on concrete.

Frank, Would agree that it is more than likely the wood soaked with **** that is causing the smell. I used to have wooden kennels and despite all my efforts I could not find anything that would completely eliminate the smell. I now have Mittonhall Kennels on a concrete base and run. Wash down complete unit once a week with disinfectant (usually Dettol) and power wash runs every day. No smell whatsoever. Expensive but one of the best investments I have made.

Walk them more often, or lock them up last thing at night

I let mine out for a pee before i lock them up and when they get out in the morning straight into the motor and then up to the fields. It works for me i dont get anymore barking and my kennels dont stink of ****.

Wash it out with water only, I lost a spaniel a few years back due to the very thing most people are using, the stuff that kill the smell killed the dog his guts run out of him in a matter of hours, due to all the bacteria the breaks up the food in a dogs gut bring killed off ,because dogs lick there paws he picked the stuff up that way it killed him extremely quick, the vet asked if he could do a PM as he hadn't seen anything like this before (at no cost to me ) after all his tests, that was the answer , Ive never used anything but water since .

Don't use Jeyes Fluid !!! That stuff is poisonous to dogs.

I buy in a disinfectant intended for dog runs. It's about a tenner a gallon, lasts ages and kills the smells. I'll have a look at the label when next in the garage. I originally found it at the Dumfries and Galloway fair so no doubt they do them all and can be bought via the internet.

Probably the NESSR one then, price is about right.
I have a gallon of deoderiser in the shed from my skip days. Does not disinfect but will kill the smell in a rotten fish skip. Lemon I think so if any good Central and you are crossing the bridge you can have some,

i agree it must be the wood am cleaning it daily and have asked about to upgrade to galvo steel summers nearly here so need to sort. ta

Finnbear,

Honest mate - i was surprised myself until a friend's dog got seriously ill and the vet traced it back to the stuff. It would seem that if the concentration gets too high and the dog licks it, it can play hell with it's system. The vet specialiases in farm practice and stated that he was forever trying to educate people.
