KETT Stamp on CF2

While looking for the Birmingham Proof House on a CF2 to date it, I came across a stamped mark of “KETT” in a rectangle. It was located on the left hand side of the barrel shank below the proofing information. I never saw this marking before.
Does anyone know what this stamp means?

Additionally, I never did find the Birmingham Proof House mark on this rifle’s metal and I really examined it very closely and thoroughly. Does that mean anything?

Your first post said the ‘Kett’ mark was below the “proofing information”.

If you are looking for the Birmingham crossed sword mark which has date code - well occasionally it wasn’t applied. I’ve had a few shotguns / rifles lacking the mark but definitely dating from periods when the mark was in use.

The date stamp which also shows the viewers rank isn’t part of the statutory proof marks.

What I meant for the "proofing information" was a crown over BNP, .30/06 2.294" 18 tons per square. I should have been more clear.

I pored over this rifle so many times with a magnifier trying to find the Birmingham crossed swords/scepters it gave me a headache. From your experience, it seems that it is possible it wasn't applied. That is somewhat of a relief.

Thanks.

Maybe made for KETTNER which was a big German sporting gun retailer? They even at one time had a store in Paris in the early 2000s. Now if they ever sold BSA rifles I have absolutely no idea whatsoever at all though.

Thanks for the interesting link.

No ,mine was BSA CF2 heavy barrel .308 and it had that stamp “Ketts Special Order”.
That could be Kettners ID inside the BSA factory for tracking them, I know of a shortened 30-06 that walked out of the BSA main gate in 1966 that ended up in a Brum canal they told me.
