Knife for a stalkers 60th birthday I've started making

Good to hear from you again and I look forward to feeling totally inadequate as I watch your projects progress !

Such a beautiful knife. You sir are a very gifted craftsman. A truly emotional thread. Regards, Salvo.

Glad you enjoyed it Salvo!

I've been boring the forum with it for a whole 1/50th of a century!

Don't listen to David. He could do it as well if he had the time. :)

I believe you ;) Good to have you back bud. Will drop you a pm re file work as that's the next step I want to take.

Had this piece of timber for going on 7 years, waiting for a time when I felt competent enough to use it on one.....

I've filed off a few bits around where the bolster will fit now.

Basically, the blade profile is done. I'll do all my usual stuff around the handle, then drill some holes, and then do the bevels.

What a marathon Digger! My patience, skill and access to such things as milling machine doesn't extend as far of yours. Some of the posts say they would like to have a go at this. I cheated a bit (well quite a lot really!) and bought some blanks both in Damascas and plain SS. There are a lot on the web and search direct into eBay.com will reveal the selections. I made some loveless eyes by buying some 2mm SS rod and some 4mm brass tube, 2mm aperture, and drifted that in to form a composite. Then a search for 'knife scales' or handles will source some exotic woods. Much of the fun is also buying some 2-3.5 MM. leather for the sheaths which I did make from scratch. It is a very rewarding route to ownership or gift and not quite as time consuming as your magnum opii!
