Knife for Rabbit Butchery

Exactly this, Victorinox is a good place to start, Ive attached a link to cheap knives, Doesn't have to this exact one but it will work
I have one of these for finer bits of butchery on stuff like CWD and Muntys have also used it on rabbits, great bit of kit for the money

I tend to shoot rabbits with 22 hornet or 223 as head shots . The only real meat is the saddle and the rear legs anyhow . I have used all sorts from a sub 2" folder to the 5.6003.12 victorinox , would use the rabbit version but my wholesaler doesn't stock them .
I have done a most with my Muntjac model knife, Though i recon the new model " caping knife " might be perfect Rabbiting knife with the G10 Orange handle . Gralloched a Roe buck and a muntjac just this weekend with mine with this far which is a very compact little neck or pocket carry knife. Just need to find a surplus of rabbits some place at present 438124993_982549873562275_1251159191676195789_n.webpDSC_0014 - Copy.webp

Please tell me what is so wrong with the Opinel ??
I don’t like them - totally subjective, personal opinion. Same as I don’t like pineapple on pizza or tea without milk.

As to why I don’t like them, I’d say that (1) the locking mechanism fails too easily, and I know several people who’ve been badly hurt; (2) they collect enormous amounts of crap inside and are hard to clean; (3) if the wood gets damp, they can jam and be very hard to open or close; and (4) the blade is too fragile for true multi purpose use.

But I’m perfectly happy to admit that that’s just me, and thousands of people use them and are delighted with them.

Knives are like ice cream: what you like is your choice, and should have no effect at all on my enjoyment of my choice!

Nice looking scales on the blade BB, 👍

I’d been looking a while for a half decent rabbiting blade for my grandson ( he’s 23) in the end I gave him my little caping blade from America - diamond blades commissioned by the rifle makers macmillan - he is over the moon with it, keeps it razor sharp and now its seconds now for him to tip a rabbit out 👍

Agreed. Horrible things.
The std high carbon blades hold a good edge but the stainless are poor . if you can handle the staining and rust the HC is the one . The wood handles can seriously swell making the knife hard to open to the point folks will fail , then when they are dry there is a fair risk of them opening up too easy while in your pocket .
The Origin is the "Penny Knife" historically sold and made all over the globe, it had no lock open ring and must have cut lots of fingers until Opinel brought out the ring type locking collar .
Now it makes it not an EDC knife in the UK so the way i see it today it has no real practical use .

oh yeah

yeah mate especially the older ones that lay around for a few years the crud behind them Is bloody horrid It would be good enough for gralloching.... about it wouldn't want to imagine cutting up meat with a knife filled with rotted meat/blood etc etc.... nearly impossible to clean!

I also cant sharpen them.... mines is nearing a paring knife at this much with how much metal I've taken off them never got shaving sharp despite hours and hours of attempts and learning.

+1 for the victirinox rabbiting knife.
Also have the 12cm curved boning knife too for the deer. This chap rates them

For an out and about knife try this Mora Pro S Utility Knife - Stainless
Got mine from monarch but cant see them in there now. Good steel and would do rabbit and deer.
