Made this for my best friend who's heading to the US. Nothing like the quality of most/all of the knives I've seen on here but I'm proud of it for what it means to me and have had it on my heart to try and make something like this for a while.
Morakniv blank, Classic 3.
Handle English Oak, felled from land in Hampshire where I used to keep sheep as the tree had been stood dead for some years and the owner's son wanted to mill some slabs for his own woodworking. I raided the offcuts pile. Hole for tang was part drilled part seared. Used a belt sander woodworking tool for the shape, then finished with hand sanding to 2500 grit. Warmed with hairdryer to melt in beeswax from my own bees to give some protection to the wood and then rubbed down to ensure it's smooth and give a slight lustre.
Blade and handle taped up then fixed with JB Weld Marine Epoxy.
Sheath sheepskin leather. Used to keep sheep and had the paperwork to get skins back for tanning. I raised this sheep, tanned the skin myself. Dyed it with clipper tea then heated and waxed it using my own beeswax. Hand stitched and again rubbed down. My first attempt at beeswaxing leather so it looks patchy and my first proper sheath. Sadly managed to stain part of the collar of the sheath but lessons learned.
Hopefully reminds him of home, I think they're going to stay over there.
