Knife pockets in stalking trousers.

How many of you guys use the knife pockets in your stalking trousers,is there any particular way that knives in their sheathes are supposed to fix to the pockets?

I have had several pairs of shooting trousers over the years that have leg pockets designed to carry knives. I've never really used them as I normally prefer to either to hang my knife in the sheath off my belt or carry it in a coat pocket. On the one occasion that I decided to try using the knife pocket I lost my stalking knife and had to retrace my steps back to a bank where I had decided to sit and wait a while whilst over looking the other side of a narrow valley. The knife was only an inexpensive Shrade knife that I bought for £5 at a game fair but none the less I hate loosing anything and the knife is well designed and does it's job well. It was so cheap because it was lacking it's sheath when I purchased it but that was soon sorted by scavenging the leather from a holster for a battery operated drill that was never used.

Now I am just wondering if I have missed something and there is supposed to be a way that the sheath of stalking knives is supposed to be secured in these knife pockets on trousers which is the way so many continental stalkers seem to carry their knives. Or do they rely purely on the fit and weight of the knife in its sheath to sit in the trouser knife pocket.

P.S. I am aware of how knives carried in the boot are secured by studs and straps to the wellie. Are knives in trouser knife pockets intended to be secured in similar fashion.

The knife pocket on the deer hunter ram trousers would fit the likes of slim sheath knife, which suits me. I like having the knife pocket, it well placed and the knife doesn’t get in the way while your sitting or driving

It was Deer Hunter trousers that my Knife fell out of.
I agree that in the knife pocket the knife doesn't get in the way when sitting or driving but how are you supposed to fix the knife in the pocket?

I have never used the knife pocket. It the one half way down the knees. I just don't like them and they feel wrong. Either a sheath with 6mm rope to the belt so it can swing and not get lost when you sit down or are driving. If anywhere I would prefer one n the shoulder of my sleeve, for a small knife, would look a bit silly with a Rambo knife hanging off the pocket. :D

i didn’t have to do anything, it just stayed in

It really depends on the kind of stalk I am planning, to be honest. Sometimes I use the knife pocket, sometimes I use the belt loop on the seath...

I've got some German hunting trouser with said pocket. I use mora knivs for gralloching and but a left hand sheath for them. I then place the sheath and knife in the trouser pocket with the belt clip on the outside. It grips the trousers well enough. With a LH sheath the knife is oriented correctly for when I need it.
