Labrador very bad diarrhoeah

How's he doing? I'm assuming OK by now.
An acute enteritis will take out the cells lining the gut and it takes 4-7 days for them to recover. in that time the ability to absorb food is reduced and the presence of food particles draws fluid into the gut (osmotic diarrhoea).
Very few of the supplements actually make any difference (other than to my income...)
I wouldn't give immodium to a dog. Diarrhoea literally translates as I flow out....

my lab has had a seriously runny backside for 4 days now--eating well enough drinking well but totally loose bowel. vets gave us medicines ,probiotics, but wifes concerned it may be something fatal .I fed him well cooked venison last week --no bones,not masses but reasonable bits here and there for days. im told this can react on occasion and give a dog the runs??????Got some skitter samples we are taking to vet tomorrow but poor hound has serious problem . Any opinions??

small meals of boiled chicken and rice, only a handfull several times a day.

This always works for my dogs, keeping dogs to the same food is key, while they will and do eat anything, I'm sure fresh meat is good, but for me good quality tinned meat and biscuits is best IMO.

thankfully hes better after 7 bloody days of shitting water thru his guts. It must have been the cooked venison--simply too much and lesson learnt by me!!!!

feed it in small amounts raw, my spaniel has about 10pg most mornings with the biscuits.
no need to cook meat for dogs. if i run out of venison he just has biscuits

This should be outlawed.. if you have the ***** you have a gut infection.. it needs to come out. My uncle's wife almost died because she did this very thing, her consultant told her Immonium and similar products should be banned...

I got really bad food poisoning in France from some prawns, I’d never had Imodium before, my mother in law produced a packet and said to take one, (to be fair by this point I think my guts were totally empty anyway so probably a moot point), but anyway, seeing this tiny thing which dissolved in a second on my tongue I thought there was no way that would cut it, so popped 4….. oops…!! Didn’t pass anything for days, blessing in a way as I had a Ryanair flight the following day so was kinda glad, but 3 days later and it might as well have been sewn shut..!!
Totally agree though, you need to expel what your body doesn’t want, it’s doing it for a reason!

Works at the time but 3 days later it’s like trying to **** a brick!

I too got very poorly eating prawns. 5 days later, passing blood and then the doctor decided it wasn’t a 24hr bug. Gave me some drink and within minutes I was feeling better!
I lost nearly a stone in a week!

To this day my ordeal is referred to as the 4 prawn diet.

Cut out the venison and chicken we had the same problem with our cocker she now has either turkey based or fish based meals plus one probiotic tablet a day, the tablets are called protexin and are available on line or from the vet.
We have had no problems since we started this regime.

If it’s really watery with little whiteish lumps in it then its a good chance it could be giarda,that’s why I asked you to put a picture of the poo up,if it is good luck to you

In needs a microscope to be sure

To look at the poo, not in the poo!

Not definitively. This diagnosis on appearance is common in diarrhoea
"jelly" in claves/lambs = coccidia
"smell of Parvo" in dogs (it's just rotting guts)
"chicken korma" - actually this last one is surprisingly accurate for rotavirus/coronavirus in calves and humans, but then it is the commonest cause of diarrhoea.
