Lady shoots a dog, claims it's a wolf then poses with its body and skinned pelt for Facebook likes.

I like to think that SD is a cut above other hunting sites.

Are we on the same forum?

This is a site for buying and flogging cheap kit and for people to have a moan now and again (like the OP).

If the dog was feral, or off the leash in a hunting area, she did the right thing in shooting it.

Calling it a 'wolf pup' though...

Yep, that would be fair enough. In fact, I know of a dog that looks very much like that, and if ever it gets out of its owners garden (which borders my grazing land) it will be going the same way.

But to plaster it over the Internet, portrayed as some kind of glamorous hunt? Naah, that's just plain stupid. The woman is clearly thick as they come.

There is a major difference in that though, you're protecting your livestock and rightly so. Unleashed dog enters your land, his fate is decided for him - I'm on board with that method of thinking.

This idiot was out on a bear hunt and took an opportunistic poke at a domestic dog. She clearly can't identify and didn't know what she was shooting at. Not a good advocacy for safe hunting. Would hate for her to mistake a person for a deer

My thoughts exactly 👍

Some states the intentional injuring or death of a dog caused by a hunter is an instant revoke of your hunting license permantly.

Assuming its public land too no one really has any excuse to "shoot" domestics either (unless there attacking you,) this is certainly a state and game issue, one phone call and they would be there ASAP especially during hunting season.

This story is just sad though I've talked with some American hunters and there absolutely appalled at the lack of knowledge with this woman.

Didn't realize they issued hunting licenses for domestic dogs on public land

I don't get it, the article mentioned "wolf hunting is legal" - I'm sure it is and she may well have had a wolf tag, but she didn't shoot a wolf! - I cant go buy an elk tag and shoot a mule deer instead

Clearly you didn’t spend much time on THL! 😂😂

There's more on this and, althogh she may have misidentified the animal as a wolf, reading up further I think the woman did right (even if in error). Feral dogs are not a joke.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release stating a local had picked up 11 husky and shepherd mix dogs that had been abandoned in the Doris Creek area of Flathead National Forest about 60 miles south of Glacier National Park - the same area where Barnes was hunting.

if the article is true, does it really matter? the dog was aggressive so she shot it, if she thought it was a wolf maybe she should learn something about wolves. i dont see the issue now

Why this should be of the slightest interest to anybody outside Montana beats me. Threads like this play the antis' game for them. There is no shortage of people in this country who think the stupidity of an American is compelling reason to attack shooting in this country. Where do we think the idea of a ban on trophy hunting originated?
The less of this $h1t on British websites, the better. Nobody even knows if it's real.
