Land Suitability Query - Northumbria

Seems to be a mixed bag, I'm also on a closed cert but with Thames Valley. When I picked up two new permissions I emailed my FEO with the postcodes to check what they were cleared for and got a reply about an hour later stating the calibres which could be used, no sending anything off like the OP has been asked for.

As far as I'm concerned we should all have written permission but you only need to provide the Police with a permission slip at renewal/grant, not for land checks.

Now the hoops he wanted me to jump through when I requested an open cert... that's a different story!

I have a problem with FLD’s that deviate from HOG. It’s bad enough that we were collectively punished for Hungerford and Dunblaine, and that we are the easy target for legislation. Rather than deal with the illegal use of firearms.
If they stuck with HOG there’s no argument if someone does something wrong. Perfect pass the buck moment, like medical forms and mentoring.
If all else fails ask for everything in writing with the legislation that backs up what they are asking for. If it’s not following HOG ask why. It’s funny how that seems to focus their minds. Remember that they are not your friend and certainly are not doing you a favour.

I actually think that you have had a perfectly reasonable reply, there are no unusual conditions attached to it, and it is standard practise.
Get your Permission details in writing, signed by the landowner, and send it off to the Firearms Licensing Dept. I suggest YOU write those permissions yourself, as it will speed things up, and simply ask your landowners to read, agree, and sign. One copy for you, one copy for the landowner. But...be careful with just email correspondence, things will get lost in cyber space. Just follow up your email/attachments with hard copies, 'To be signed for', so the Firearms dept cannot claim later on that they didn't receive it. Just be pragmatic, do what they ask, and you're most likely to get your FAC 'opened' quite soon.

So next question.

If i have a permission which is in another forces area, which force do i need to get the confirmation of calibre from? I've picked up another permission for rabbits but its over the County border into Cumbria. Do i need to ask Northumbria to check as my ticket is through them, or do i go to Cumbia Police as the land falls under them?

Go to your own force and let them make enquiries with their colleagues over the border.

Thanks for very much for the responses. Two of the lads I’ve shot with had said this was excessive. Just thought I’d get a few other opinions.

I’ve already had the paperwork signed and will send it off today. I just wasn’t aware that everytime I got a new permission I had to send it in to firearms.
I Always send permissions when renewed acquired that way you build a portfolio with FEO,

As Carl has said through your own force. They should then approach the relevant FLD.
However I have gone directly to N Yorkshire when I wasn’t getting a straight answer from Lancashire. But it would be a last resort.
Unfortunately firearms licencing is a bit like politics. You have to remember they are not your friend or doing you a favour. But you also have to know when to and not to tread on toes.
Multiple new permissions are possibly a good reason to “open” your ticket. It is supposed to be experience based rather than a blanket first renewal rule. Gently pointing out they wouldn’t have all the extra work, along with evidence you are using your rifle a lot might help move them on that subject.
