I use Barnes in my .308, .300wsm, .35 Whelen and .416. I use Yew Tree in my .25-06. I do plan to swap to Yew Tree for the .308 once I've run out of what I have, they seem to expand far more readily.

Used a lot of these (approx 4000 in my 270 alone, plus 1000 TTSX in my 6.5x55 when i had it) and are all excellent!

1. Do you want a deformer or a fragmentor. Both have their applications and will act differently ceteris paribus.
2. Do you want reliable accuracy? Then stay clear of the pressed type ala TTSX.
3. How much barrel smear are you willing to accept. I have had TSX’s in .308 that would group acceptably for 10 shots. After that I had to decopper. Completely unacceptable to me.

Maybe my TTSXs missed that accuracy memo…

0.044MOA in my Semi Custom T3 .308

And 0.45-0.55MOA out of a .300 WSM Factory T3 barrelled action (multiple loads and bullet weights)


I’m hoping when the .300 comes back from rebarrel I can get them to the same level as the .308, though it may be challenging given the standard!

That said I mean clearly they’re just a liability in the accuracy department

Been interestes in the Lapua bullets but they look like the 'brick BC' type.

Have you tried them out to say 200-250-300 meters?

Work OK in a standard 1:10" twist rate .243?

I've used Barnes TSX in 6.5CM and TTSX in .222Rem and .220Swift.

I now use Virtus Merlin in 6.5CM & .308Win and the Eagle in .243Win and 300BLK.

I moved to Virtus for the availability and stayed for the accuracy and terminal performance.

6.5CM 120gr and 100gr. Prefer the 100gr for flatter faster shooting.

223 50gr.

Cant complain with either in accuracy or performance

I have only shot Roe deer with them and had no issues , the deer certainly can’t tell the difference

Mine too 0.3 moa out a factory (Bergara semi weight) 270. Nowt wrong wi them

Shot TTSX, RWS and I think they are all hard. Need to hank something on the way in to get decent expansion. Poking them in the old Position A and they do a lap of honour before tripping over and old tree and expiring there.

Not got my head round the idea of "fragmentation" ie leaving petals of hard metal in the meat. I am even less keen on eating that than lead shot.
