lever action rifles for left handed shooting

Scrumbag beat me to it. i was going to suggest the Browning BLR for the box mag reason. 4 of my mates shoot lever action in Canada and all swear by it. I currently have a bolt action 30-06 and i really want to change it for the browning BLR or the browning maral straight pull.

I checked the regs, you are right no semi auto rifles or handguns for hunting in PA. What a load of crap! This must be something new. Complete BS, my blood is boiling. Some feel good legislation for sure. Let me tell you, I can shoot my pump shotgun almost as fast as a semi auto, sames goes for a rifle. Must be tons of semi autos for sale in PA, that is usually one of the most opted for actions in the woods hunting regions. Southern, can you believe this! Take em away, one gun at a time. Scum bags.

It struck me because I very nearly bought a .22 semi auto a few months back, but the fact that I wouldn't be able to bring it hunting to PA was one reason why I bought a bolt action instead...

are you buying your rifles here to take with you ?

Is that due to, if you import rifles you will be issued a firearms permit without being a citizen ?

as id imagine you would have a better selection at the fraction of the cost over there.

No, it's slightly complicated because before we decided to emigrate, we'd planned a long holiday (all of December) staying with my in-laws. So I've done all the paperwork to take my rifles with me so that I can take part in the whitetail season (PA hunting licence, form 6NIA, borrowed a pelicase from a very decent member of this illustrious forum etc). At the end of December I shall come back to the UK and work through my notice. My wife and our two boys will stay on. At the end of January I'll fly back and join them for good. I plan to sell my rifles in January and use the proceeds to buy again once there.

Among other reasons, both my rifles have moderators which I wouldn't be able to import anyway (in the future, once a citizen, I possibly could do the paperwork and pay the relevant tax to get mod's again, but I'm really not sure I'll bother....). They are fairly modest rifles, but both LH bot actions, which aren't in the most pelntiful supply in the UK, so should sell, especially as I'm not expecting them to go for lots of money!

Another vote for the Savage 99. I too prefer the older ones ... a couple 300s from the 1950s, a .308 from the 60s, a .358W that started out as a .308, and a 250-3000 from 1915. I load for them all, and am planning an outing for the 250 in the next week or so to chase white tails and mule deer in honor of its 100th birthday. I had a BLR, but sold it, and though I do like my 94s, they've pretty much become range guns. The 99s have an almost cult following, especially in the U.S., which has tended to drive up prices, but they are fine rifles, and are a great fit for most left handers.

Welcome to the west side of the pond. I'm sure you'll find considerable more freedom to pursue you hunting and firearms interests in N.A. than in your current location!

Thanks, both for the welcome and the info. I've looked up BLRs, and whilst the look interesting and pretty neat in their own way, my yen is still for a 99 just now. What I need to do is get my hands on one in December, maybe even try and shoot with it if possible and go from there....

It looks as though I will be finding my way up there! Do you happen to know what the chambering is? It is not that I'm calibre conscious, but if it happens to be 308 win (as many are) I might as well keep the small number of factory rounds that I have to run through it...
