Another vote for the Savage 99. I too prefer the older ones ... a couple 300s from the 1950s, a .308 from the 60s, a .358W that started out as a .308, and a
250-3000 from 1915. I load for them all, and am planning an outing for the 250 in the next week or so to chase white tails and mule deer in honor of its 100th birthday. I had a BLR, but sold it, and though I do like my 94s, they've pretty much become range guns. The 99s have an almost cult following, especially in the U.S., which has tended to drive up prices, but they are fine rifles, and are a great fit for most left handers.
