Lever action

Bought the remlin.

With all the extras was too good a deal to miss.

@SimpleSimon the ruger is still on order and has reached the proof house. Drop me a PM if you want to take the order on.

Was the Ruger/Marlin imported by yourself or did you order through and RFD? What was the turn around time? I’m severely struggling to find a 30-30 that matches my needs (screw cut & side ejecting). I was told Henry was a 12 month lead so I’m conferring importing the 336 and having it screw cut, rather than putting in another variation to get a 45-70

Was through an RFD, wait was about 8-10 weeks, though it never landed as my RFD was away training and said he’d respond to the email from the importer when back in. 3 days later he responded to be told it had been sold on to the next person on the list as he was too slow to respond!

Wow, that’s quite bad from the importer. 10 weeks doesn’t seem too bad though, I could get one by trip to Scotland in September.

Yes, you need a lever action rifle, everyone does. I’ve had a few over the years, Pre safety Winchesters and Marlins are my favorites. As a kid growing up in the New England area of the US, they were the most popular rifles in the bush. 30/30, .35 Rem, .32 Win Special, 32/40, .444 Marlin, all delightful numbers. Just something fun about shooting them. Perhaps it’s my inner cowboy wannabe, or perhaps the quality of build and the wood with blued steel. Nostalgia, I guess is the word for it. They sure don’t make them like they use to. Also, I don’t have to stress out if I don’t shoot a sub MOA group. Anything less than 3” at 100, will give me a warm fuzzy feeling. The biggest reason you should get one is because you only live once. Cowboy up and get one.

45/70. That will do the job on anything in England. Rabbit to boar. A marlin or No1 and load hot. 😎😎
Try a hot loaded 45-70 off the bench some time, not at all pleasant and IMO very unpleasant. Sold my Marlin guide gun for that very reason and I never loved it. Standard 405 grn factory will kill anything in the UK or North America and Canada

If I had a 45-70 I would not load it hot. May even stick to BP equivalent loads.

Personally I never got the cowboy thing.
To me they are just sleek lightish handy rifles that fly in the face of all things tactical and sub moa all the freaking time blah blah blah.

I remember turning up to a driven vermin shoot, which included deer at hampworth park with my marlin, a few people asked who invited John Wayne.

Yep, encountered the same shallow pig ignorant idiotic tiny minded individuals myself.
Residents of Short Site street. Tiny Town. Little Britain.

I must admit , I've always found that reaction to be a bit strange . It's a rifle . I can't remember anyone here bringing up action type when out hunting with others . I see everything from semi autos and pump actions to single shots and everything in between , no one cares . It must be a cultural thing .

Shooting gear choice in the UK is based one third on tradition, one third on received wisdom and one third on clever marketing. Deviate too far from any of those factors in favour of another and people will start to judge you for it 😂

Ahhh, that's their problem and it helps that I couldn't give two figs what they think of me.

Today many believe you've got to have a plastic stock, a heavy barrel, a mega zooming scope and a bi pod or quad sticks.
And if it don't shoot less than moa your fooked!
Nonsense.
If your good at hunting you don't need all that tat. In fact it's usually a pain in the arse!
I've not shot many deer but have shot as many with a lever gun as I have with a bolt action and never felt short with a levergun. On the hill or in woodland. Little scope or open sights. Mind you, my bolt actions were light also.

Oh I’ll be getting one, I’m just struggling to find a 30-30 that ticks all the boxes, and have been quoted 6-12 months to import one. I’m tempted to get a variation for a 45-70 but I think it’s overkill for the muntjac population it will be used for.

For me I want a side eject or possibly an AE so I can mount either a short scope or red dot with magnifier, and I’d like to moderate it too. The latter I’m less fussed with but would like the option.

No such thing as overkill.
Just load it suitably an it'll be fine.

Not a deer rifle but I’m having a lot of fun with my new Henry Frontier .22LR. Vortex scope and Saks moderator mean it’s damn near silent and shoots decent groups of sticks at 80 yards. Though having to take the receiver apart to pull through the barrel is a bit of a nuisance.
