The original potentiometer can be reused

hi bewsher,
to keep the box as small as possible, would it be worth doing away with the on board illuminator and using a self powered add on, especially as the built in one has limited range

well if I ever find my soldering iron and get 5 mins to myself I am going to remove the AV socket and Power switch potentiometer from the board and relocate them remotely.

I dont mind the on board IR, it cast more of a moonlight beam than a spotlight from a laser

I picked up a foxes eyes at around 180yds last night and watched him walk towards me all the way with just the on board

project moving slowly whilst xmas/NY liver bashing takes place

have the lenses I want though and am hoping to knock up a test bed so I can mount a scope and adjust eye relief and focal length on a frame rather than trying to hold everything with three hands!

Still havent found my soldering iron (obviously put in a VERY safe place last time round)

have made some progress though
made a test bed to facilitate easy focal length setting, lens swapping and general trial and "errorring"

excluded a load of lenses but will still plan to trial a larger CCTV unit
(excluded the 8mm and 2.8mm CCTV options but would like a 12mm one: Monofocal Fixed Iris CS Mount Lens - CCTV Lenses

managed to narrow down the board lens option to a 12mm focal length board lens (excluded 8mm and 16mm, suspect if a 14mm one existed it would be a better option)

Board Lenses - Day / Night (400-850nm ) Megapixel - Board Lenses


on the test bed in a well lit hall way I managed to take a "half decent" photo of the sight picture, not truly centred and the camera wouldnt focus very well but progress nevertheless!

am going to source some very fine screws to see if mounting the lens within the original objective housing will help relieve some eye relief issues.
once the AV and Pot are off the main board I am going to mount the front and rear boards on the main board with some foam sticky tabs, should keep overal focal length down to around 9cm. still more than I want but I am running out of lens options!

Good steady progress by the look of it. I amazed at how small the actual circuit board is. Have you thought about scrapping the Bresser eyepiece altogether and just running a 2.5" screen, via the AV take-off, mounted about halfway down the scope. I know it's nice to have a good linear view down the scope but it's difficult to mount the scope far enough forward unless you can condense it up a bit.

i dont like screens personally
they light your face up unless darkened down to levels where they become pretty useless

doable though

with the board widths being so thin the packaging issue is more about the lens and the relief it needs from the occular end of the scope

need more lenses to play around with that

bought a new one have you know!!

Potentiometer (power) and AV out removed from board and rewired for remote location
removes 1-2cm from potential eye relief if full packaging is taken advantage of

chucked it back in the original box complete with AA NiCad power source just to see how much room there is now
considering onboard power and recharge socket for ease of use. I have more than enough room to wedge it all back in the first size box (35x60x80mm)

have a two piece DSA that was kindly donated so will be sourcing some suitably diametered drainpipe from B&Q tomorrow!

am hoping a fully sheilded objective to lens will do wonders for the image quality

the lens shown is a 12mm board lens
I am waiting for a 12 and 16mm CS mounted CCTV lens to try that as well
same field of view and specs but bigger actual lens

hoping it sharpens up the picture and it is more bulky so give me something to mount the DSA onto without more construction
