I remember the outcry from the local community where my old man lived (Westhill) when it was proposed that Aldi open a store there. The usage of M&S bags to keep up appearances is very real, although you're still easily spied by all the other locals trotting out of there and into your Audi/BMW/RR etc etc 😂
The Sipsmith Sloe Gin is pretty decent there !

We shop in Lidl, mostly because our nearest one is very good. I like the fresh bakery, the fruit & veg is normally excellent, and the wine selection is superb for the money.
We don’t tend to buy meat there (shoot my own or local butchers), but the rest of it does tend to be very good value.
We’ve had to do an online shop from Asda for the last week due to C19 isolation, and it’s definitely more expensive for our normal weekly shop (usually £50-60 week for the two of us in Lidl) and the quality from Asda isn’t any noticeably better.

Both Lidle and Aldi but since they are owned by the same family carry very similar lines.

A thought for all the snobs, when on holiday abroad are you anything other than delighted to stock up on cheap wine, baguettes, cheeses etc from the local Lidle?

Aldi and Lidl are both owned by Germans but their owners are not related. Lidl’s origins trace back to Josef Schwarz who started in the grocery business in the 1930’s but opened the first Lidl store in 1973. Aldi was started by the Albrecht brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht on 10 July 1946 and used to be called Albrecht Diskont. The brothers split in 1960 making two separate firms and in 1962 both agreed on changing their firms names to Aldi but their parent companies are called Aldi Nord based in Essen, Germany and Aldi Sud based in Mulheim, Germany.

You have confused them with Puma and Adidas. Puma was founded by a man called Rudolf Dassler, and Rudolf had a brother named Adolf who also created his own brand called Adidas. Puma and Adidas are brothers!
