Good spot, Stalker, I posted that video to answer a few comments I'd had on another upload about stopping the screw when it's running and my answer was to demo how that could be done with a centrifugal clutch, it's in the description. I've since modded it so it has a foot pedal clutch.

Still for sale because I've cleared all the felled timber in the woodland.

My late father had kids, multi purpose tools,they also stack it when split and carry it indoors when needed. Useful around the farm for a multitude of jobs apparently, downside is expensive to run he always claimed

I have go a Rytec electric 7 ton log splitter and it is excellent. My first one was a cheap one of the Bay sold it and upgraded.

Cone splitters are excellent and I can't see that yours is anymore dangerous than any other type of splitter. Less so in fact. You can sever or crush fingers with yours.

I would consider a 'kinetic' log splitter.
The DR rapid logsplitter (petrol powered) is the one i'm hoping to get but its from the states and hard to find - excellent machine and so much faster than hydraulic. Try U tube for vids of the DR/others.
This last year I did no splitting as its a job of choice for the lad (he lives on site) so my back is saved for another year.

I still split all mine by hand.
Got a real heap to do this spring and still more to skid out the wood yet.

I went on to a fiskas axe, absolutely love it makes splitting by hand almost effortless.
I have a banking where I ring my logs up and when splitting stand below it so splitting at waist hieght, no bending down and logs sort of roll down towards u.
Far comfier and quickier so if combined with a tyre.
There was an auld boy who sold firewood split everything by hand with an axe said it was quickier.

Wot are u splitting??
Big rounds? Or smaller logs, straight grains or real horrible knotty buggers.
These would influence my choice of machine.

If ur splitting big rounds any machine with a high splitting table migh be a waste off time ( how do u lift the big rounds on to it?)

Does anywhere local to u hire hem out?? Be amazing wot u could split over a wknd with a proper piece off kit.
Or speak to a local welder/engineer see if he can make u 1

Sod hand splitting. I have a life. I bought a horizontal splitter and it does everything I put through it. It is electric. I would now spend the money and buy a vertical one. Just easier to use. But as mine works and I’m too mean to spend out on a new one I will stick with it.

These are well worth the money Darty,mine is perhaps 4 years old and has been tireless. A 30 tonne force hammers anything bent, twisted or forked.
They are cheap as chips compared to the 8-10 Grand units here.
There are many cheaper units again but they don't have the genuine Honda donks in them. CH copies are not the same.
I doubt that there is an electric unit that would split our wood.

Be careful. They have an impressively fast action but they generally have far less splitting power than hydraulic and many of them have a habit of shaking themselves to bits.

After reading all the replies, and thank you all so much, I am leaning to an electric hydraulic, 7 tonne one now, I have a decent gene up the field. I am not splitting anything too big, all Ash, so fairly easy stuff really, I just got a lot of it.

Ha! Electric?!!? And I offered you my diesel-powered man's man's splitter, that's been splitting proper man-size Devon logs. You big girl's blouse. I bet you're not really from Devon either.

There's a firm out towards Holsworthy that makes decent hydraulic ones, KTM Machinery if you want to keep things local.

We have an electric one it does the job but awfully slow. Was looking at these for my old man but i've never used the site and can only assume after waiting a month for delivery you have no contact if its wrong, although $100 for a 7ton, let me know if you give it a go. You should have been given a tracking number, so you can watch the container ships progress.
Watching is important, it is stored for 5 days for free (well other than the handling charges) after that its several hundred pounds a day.
Example, bought a generator (head only) cost $275 with shipping, after 10 days in port and I had heard nothing, finally got a demand for £1,500.00
Yes I told them to poke it, rather lose what I had already paid than be held to a very expensive ransom.

Form a group with others, get one of these. Build a simple log table with a roller way, heck, even build an 'oversize log' overflow table the other side.

Holsworthy! . I ain’t going to Holsworthy, especially at the weekends! The last lot of missionaries that were sent there were found tied naked to an Oak tree mumbling about a log splitter!

Devonshire born and bred, and yes, strong in the arm, thick in the head..........Wouldn’t change a thing, God’s own country.

KTM, have certainly heard of them for sure. If I decide to travel into Holsworthy, I will PM you and request an escort!

You can hire them for a week at about £70 if you are organised that would process a huge amount of timber. I have a very old splitting axe which I found when clearing out an old ladies shed. Re shafted and sharpened v good. When in Devon I have made a big splitting stump and screwed onto it is a tyre. Holds rounds in place and they dont fly everywhere. I have also used a Fiskars splitting aze, they are v good.

I have to add to this, the fiskars X27 splitting axes are top notch. If I’m splitting clean rings of decent wood (ash, oak, beech etc) I’ll use the axe over the hydraulic splitter.

Yep I have one of these too. Superb axe. Far quicker. Never use the electric one now.
